Q: I am in search of a vintage farmhouse table for my upcoming (solo move upon separation from my husband of eight years) move to a new loft apartment. Since the loft is very modern and sleek, I love the idea of a big statement table with tons of character. I look forward to pairing the table with a bunch of vintage eames chairs in eggshell green and white.
I've been looking for said table since August without success. I live in Seattle. I know if I was back on the east coast where I grew-up that I would not have any trouble locating such a piece. I've watched Craigslist, traveled to every vintage/antique store I can find, and I still haven't found what I am looking for.

While you may not want to pay for it, Vermont Farm Table does offer shipping. Their pieces are made from reclaimed lumber and I often ogle over them. Good luck!

Well, they're not that close to you, and they're not cheap, but Maison Reve, in the San Francisco area, sometimes has these (plus a bunch of other really cool things). They currently have a vintage Belgian farmhouse table.

there is a place in NJ called Gypsy farmhouse (they have a website). I got a farm table made of recycled barn wood. The amish make the furniture. They might ship to you.
At the Reuse Center in Portland OR, I saw wonderful furniture made by local craftsmen using old wood. I'm sure you could get someone there to make exactly what you want at a reasonable price.
Or check Seattle to see if there's someplace similar.
Got mine here, you may not want to ship across country but If any one from New York is looking...

Oops sorry, I'm starting the coffee now
I live in the Midwest, so I won't be much help for locations.
But I think it might look fabulous with several smaller wooden tables, lined up to form one big table. 3 or 4 smaller vintage tables would probably be easier to find and possibly cheaper depending on the size of the table you are looking for. Then you can just move and rearrange them anyway you chose (if you ever decide to have a dance party in your new pad and need some floor space).
Or I would go with the reclaimed wood route, and grab some saw horses or table legs from the internet. http://www.tablelegs.com/Legs.aspx
And get someone to help you build it.
Personally, I'm in love with this vintage find from Jayson Home & Garden: http://www.jaysonhomeandgarden.com/product.php?productid=4767. They have other options as well, some truly vintage and others in vintage style.
Everyone and their brother wants a vintage farmhouse table right now so I'm not surprised you've had trouble finding one. Just expect it will take awhile and that you'll have to pay a decent price for it when you do find one.
Otherwise, you might consider buying a new one made to look vintage (e.g., using reclaimed wood). That you should be able to find easily, but it will still be expensive.
Ouch! I just checked shipping for the table I suggested: it costs $475 and takes 4-5 weeks. The table itself costs just under $5,000. It's beautiful, but that's a lot of money!
You could also try Restoration Hardware for a vintage look. Of course, they're not cheap either, but there may be a store near you. Their Farmhouse Salvaged Wood table is currently on sale for under $2,200 on their website: http://www.restorationhardware.com/rh/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1605030&navCount=4. They have other tables on sale right now, too, including several made of salvaged wood.
british traditions - you can get them through any designer. beautiful finishes and paint selection is pretty large. good prices, freight pretty reasonable. i'm on the east coast, farm tables galore - not sure about the west coast, so many ordering is the best choice.

Have one made from reclaimed wood - That's what most are nowadays anyway...
This place in Sonoma has a more modern version
I need to know what the windows are in the picture!

Is it possible to just take a week off to farm table shop in the East? And then rent a U-haul or something and take it back to Seattle? It seems like I see an old farm table for sale every time I go to an antique shop in rural Maryland or Virginia. . . .
My desire for a farmhouse table coupled with my lack of funds led me to buy a big (and with extra slats for extension) butcherblock dining table from Ikea. After a quick sanding and a couple of coats of mahogany stain and polyurethane, it's come to look like an old vintage piece. I've coupled it with white mid-century tulip chairs, and get tons of compliments. I know it's still Ikea at the end of the day...but with a little effort on your part, it'll end up looking unique and no one will know!
And the Restoration Hardware farm table is gorgeous!
As for Seattle, Palayo Antigues on Greenwood Avenue in the Phinney/Greenwood neighborhood would have been the place to find a beautiful antique one, but he has retired. Don't know where he has disposed of his huge inventory of Swedish and Norwegion antiques. There are still antique shops along Greenwood Avenue and at each shop you may pick up a big flyer that lists and locates other antique and consignment shops throughout Seattle. I don't know whether the Sundace Store is still located in the University Village shopping center, but Sundace is a good source for this type of table as well as fore-mentioned Restoration Hardware and possibly Pottery Barn, that may mean paying for shipping, however. I have two big old rustic trestle tables, myself and love the look of mixing modern seating with them. One is a family heirloom (made by a family member), the other I found at a yard sale here in Salt Lake City for $25!
ah... I live in Seattle and am trying to get rid of my vintage farmhouse table...it looks very much like the one in the picture. We should talk...
If you have the budget: Have one made to your specs, or have a reputable local antiques dealer source one for you.
I live in a loft and I want a table from this place. They have a store in Seattle and San Francisco.

katiejane, this is tk. let's chat about that table! trynnytyk@live.com
"Have one made from reclaimed wood - That's what most are nowadays anyway."
Yep, what bepsf said. I bought a HUGE harvest-style table from a local carpenter, who made it out of reclaimed cedar. Awesome because it could eventually migrate outdoors, unlike an antique harvest table made out of more conventional varieties of wood. Everyone who sees my table assumes it's an antique. Best part: it cost me all of $300.
I worked with Vermont Farm Table to build my custom table. They pointed out a lot of differences to us in "great table construction" that takes into account wood movement over the years vs. slapped together cheapos... not to say that there's not a time and place for cheap table. We love ours and it was worth the wait - check out their testimonials page as well.... and they emailed us photos of the entire project along the way.

Lakeandmountainhome.com is a great resource. They are based in Mass. but will ship anywhere in the country. You can have any table built out of the old wood (different wood types available) and you can actually choose how "rustic" or not you want your table. THey will also customize to any size and will match a color you want if you don't like their colors. I was delighted by their service and the quality of their products. I'd highly recommend them to anyone looking for a well built, old wood table. I did my homework on line and found that they are very competitively priced. Good luck!
I like a lot of the comments made here regarding Vintage Farm Tables.
Regarding price, I've seen so-called farm tables all over the board. But remember this, it is very true that you get what you pay for.
Often, I am asked to include shipping (FREE). It's not easy to do when you purchase just one item. Add a huntboard and some chairs, then shipping price may be adjustable. Bottom line is that shipping anything has a price tag to cover fuel, truck, labor, remote areas, etc.
Anyway, we make custom Vintage Farm Tables. They are beautiful, and made with the highest quality materials by master furnituremakers using mortise & tenon with square peg joinery. No other construction method offers the longevity of a properly created mortise & tenon joint. And our finishes are simply the best. Everything from antiqued stain to layered paint - all are museum quality.
So there you have it, come over for a visit to www.paulthomasdesigns.com to see more of what we do.

It is a difficult hunt when looking for Vintage Farm Tables. I realize this post is past the date of the original question, but perhaps someone will find this via Google as I did.
We are Kate Madison in Kennebunkport, Maine and we make French Country Farm Tables with Vintage Pine tops. Our Vintage Pine is reclaimed wood we salvage ourselves and they are all one-of-a-kind. We build them in standard lengths of 5', 6', 7', and 8' lengths and can also build custom lengths.
Please come see all of our line of french country furniture at Kate Madison.com
I am aware that I am responding to a very old post; however, I'll put in my 2 cents anyway because the question is just as relevant now. I hope that someone finds this useful.
My partner and I build custom furniture and specialize in old looking furniture, especially French farm style tables, which we love to build. Please check the link to our website on our profile. We think you will be pleased with how natural the distressing looks. I brought one today to a local art opening, and the couple there were fooled into thinking it was an antique and surprised to learn that it was new. I have stood by a few times when this happens and it always tickles me when people mistake them for old tables.
Another late poster here, but as I got here researching on Google, I thought others might find this helpful.
We at Cottage Home http://cottagehomemaine.com/farmhousetables.html offer a large collection of Barnwood & farmhouse tables. In addition, we offer customization options on our furniture pieces, including special designs & dimensions, as well as paint & stain colors. We also utilize reclaimed wood for natural distressing. I hope someone finds this helpful. Thanks, Cottage David
Make your own! Ana White has amazingly easy plans on her site to build a knock off version of RH Farmhouse table. My husband and I just made ours (took 2 evenings to construct) and i'm working on finishing it now. Super easy, and only about $150 in wood/supplies. give it a try!!

Genuine vintage tables are fantastic, but you might consider a newly crafted table made from vintage, reclaimed wood. It is likely to be smoother on the top surface (if that is desirable) and more solid and stable in general.

Solid wood furniture is an enjoyment for everyone, here is a place that offers an Amish Oceanside leg table that is solid wood and can be finished in a variety of colors and finishes. They are not cheap, but they have beautiful, well built furniture. You could finish it in one of their antique finishes.

Farm Table
Hi, there is a small reclaimed furniture business located at the North Dam Mill in Biddeford, Me. The company name is Rustique and he builds beautiful reclaimed furnture, farmers tables, islands, you name it. I hired Bob McGrath the owner to build a table for me and couldn't be happier. Everyone who sees it can't believe it is a reproduction. I was so pleased with my purchase that I had a bench built to go with it. He has since built me an entertainment center for my flat screen t.v....stunning!
His website is: www.antiquewoodcreations.com
Good luck!
Tom
