Good Questions: Quality Mama Calling Cards

Calling cards for moms (and dads) are all the rage. We've never used them but can see how they could come in handy on the playground.

Nursery Reader Heather wants to know: Hi! I'm in the market to buy some Mommy Calling Cards and have found a lot of online sources. While the designs look great online and there is plenty of selection, I want to find a product that is made of good quality card stock (doesn't look cheap or homemade).

So, my question is if anyone has any recommendations of cards they ordered that were great quality? Please post any sources. Thank you.

There certainly are numerous choices for mommy calling cards these days. We love the collection of calling cards available at Juniper Design & Ink (pic above). The cards are printed on linen paper and start at $25 for 50.

For something a bit more nostalgic, try these play date cards by Felix Doolittle (pic right).

The cards are printed on medium card stock with rounded corners. 40 for $50.

For more pared down and modern, try the Amy calling card by Event Bliss (pic left). We like the simple design (also comes in a Mom with two kids version, but you'll have to ask for custom design if you've got more). The business-size cards have glossy UV coating on front and are matte white on the back. 100 for $60 or 250 for $75.

Anyone else have a recommendation? Do you use calling cards?

We went to Moo.com and got cards for the whole family.

We got 100 cards for around $25.

Each card has one of 7 different pictures of our daughter on one side, our contact details on the other. The cards are on very heavy stock and in a small, miniaturized side. The photos help new friends remember who we are.

we also got the moo cards--love 'em.

I would be really shocked if a fellow mom pulled out a card to give me her number maybe even a little intimidated. I would probably buy them and forget to ever use them/

It's time for calling cards in general would make a comeback -- they're so much more civilized than scribbling numbers on the back of a receipt or whatever bit of trash was in one's purse.

In the old days, people had them in different formats for different purposes, so you could have one set in which you're Ashey and Jacob's Mommy and one in which you're a conceptual artist exploring gender boundaries in barbed wire and dryer lint. Just be very careful which card you hand to whom.

This seems totally pretentious to me, but I can name at least 3 times in the last few months where this would have come in handy. So...I'm battling my greater angels and considering doing some up on the laser printer. Surely that would be less intimidating than letter-pressed uber-chic Mommy Calling Cards?

God, is this what it's come to? Victorian calling cards make a comeback? Between this and the knitting I've been doing, I am going to get so much grief from DH...

I used to hand out my business cards and scribble my home email and phone number on them. This feels more natural.

But I'd never give myself a title like "E's Mom". Our cards have both parents' contact details and our daughter's name, no "titles".

I too use the moo cards--affordable and a unique size--but like mamachilanga, I don't call myself "my kids' mom". I use my name with my children's names below with our household email and phone numbers. That way I can use the cards in many situations. With the moo cards, you can upload your own photos, and you can make a set with a lot of different images....I used some funny ones, some more formal ones, and some arty ones.
