Hello AT,
I'm looking for someone to put wallpaper up for me in my apartment in the West Village. It is not a large job, but one I would certainly not do properly if I tried it myself.
Any suggestions? E

Dear E,
We would head right down to the nearest paint store and ask the folks there for someone local. Garbers hardware is a big West Village resource and one that should be helpful. We would also go to Janovic and ask there.
Also, we would ask The Handy Guy to see if he does wallpaper.
If you find someone, please let us know so that we can blog them here.
Anyone????

I'm looking for the same thing in Astoria. I decided to wallpaper over my faux textured paint look in my office with a real textured wallpaper, but although I've done all the other work in my apartment so far, this is one project I do not want to fudge myself.
Do places like Home Depot count this kinda stuff among their installation services? Although I'm thinking of buying my wallpaper online ... and in that case, I'd definitely need a recommendation of someone to come out and do it.
I found a great guy through the yellow pages, of all things. His name is Alex Uchitel and here's a link to his site: http://www.auwallcovering.com/about.html
I had only planned on doing one accent wall, but he recommended extending the wallpaper to an adjoining wall - and did a meticulous job getting what was not quite enough wallpaper to fit!
Note however that if your job is truly a small one (as mine certainly was) it will be difficult to get people interested. It will help if you have a good attitude and are honest with them (e.g., don't lie and pretend you'll give them a whole house to redo if they do a good job).
Do note that since every job requires two people and a certain amount of supplies, the minimum will typically be a few hundred dollars for an experienced, professional installer. A handyman can probably do the job much cheaper but make sure you're in the position to skimp - if your pattern is difficult to match, the paper is fragile, or there are a lot of things to paper around (e.g., a bathroom with tile) you may not be happy with the result.
This was covered in an earlier post:

I called John Fasano, tel 917.709.4747. John and his partner did a fabulous job; told us how to prep, how much to purchase, etc. Most importantly, they were on time, accurate with estimate... a rarity... I would absolutely call them again... Lovely work.
