My husband and I bought an old New Englander style farmhouse (circa 1880) last year that needs quite a bit of cosmetic work in every room. Two rooms and two stairways need wallpaper. Generally, I really like the look of wallpaper so I'd like to put new paper up where we already have it (plus the thought of pulling it all off and getting down to the old horsehair plaster is more than I can bear). There have been some lovely posts on AT about wallpaper, but with so much to buy, the prices are way out of our budget. Has anyone had any success finding attractive wallpaper in the $25 or less per roll range?
About the house...it's not a rustic country farmhouse. It's simple but still pretty elegant, so in keeping with the history and feel of the house I'm trying to stick with an updated traditional decor with a few more modern pieces from our last house I couldn't bear to part with. The palette I've been working with is blue, green and yellow with red accents and a glossy painted chocolate brown floor. Thanks, Jennifer
Thanks for your question, Jennifer. I'm sure we've all wondered by there aren't more beautiful wallpapers in the affordable range. Our best suggestion for you is to go with paintable wallpapers by Graham & Brown (pictured above the jump) which run $35 a roll and can easily be painted any color you'd like. These will add wallpaper-like texture and pattern without the price of high end designs. We also found a few rolls on sale at Target (pictured above) for less than $20 but the selection is very limited.
Anyone else have advice for Jennifer in her quest for inexpensive wallpapers?
