Q: I am in the process of buying a house, so I'm jumping the gun a bit here. But in the process of hoping and waiting, I'm scheming. See, I am so so so SO sick of blah rental walls. So I'm thinking about paint colours.
I have been dreaming of a bedroom that's a dark peacock, like this one. I LOVE the pops of white. Only, I didn't think I'd be able to buy any time soon, so I started painting my furniture bright colours. If you can't have white against colour, have colour against white, right?
The most complex paint job, and the one I'm proudest of, is my bed. I've attached some (surprisingly bad - I thought I had better ones) photos, and there are more of the same on my flickr //www.flickr.com/photos/craftastrophies/ mostly in the 'craft' and 'Albert Park' sets. I love it - it makes me happy to just look at! I have all-white or mostly white sheets that look great with the bed, but in a blah rental room are a bit sad, so they haven't made it on. Would that be enough to tone it down?
Most of the colours that would make the bed pop are either a bit blah or not something I want on a whole wall - brown, for eg. I'm a cool colours gal, and I want the bedroom to be soothing and restful. I am worried that too much colour will be at odds with that.
Do I have to sacrifice my lovely painted bed to get my peacock room - painting the bed white? Or should I sacrifice the peacock and go white for the walls or maybe a lighter blue for an in-between compromise? If I get the house I'm scheming, the windows face North which, here in Australia, means a lot of light (especially in the afternoon/evening). It's also got two access doors, and I'm planning on keeping the paint light in the other rooms, as well as having white trims (and my wardrobe and other bedroom furniture is either already white or can be painted white) so I don't think it would be too dark in general.
