Hello, I visited online this modern furniture store (http://www.modani.com) and was able to find a great selection of modern lounge chaises, perfect for small apartments and at affordable prices. Like this one, is only $890 and was inspired by world known designers but at a price that we all can afford. Check it out.

you need to look at the new mitchell gold bob williams chaise:

I don't know the price, but it's not $4000 like the one above from oly
The Lincon chaise by JC Penny, of all places. It's not quite as sleak as the one you like, but on sale for 449.00 with tons of fabric choices makes it a very affordable compromise.

Although not my style personally, I have shopped at Ballard Designs for gifts for my partner's mother. And my designer friend uses Ballard a lot for his clients.
Check out these chaises! (Especially the Manchester, Marche and the Charonne).

Craigslist Craigslist Craigslist!!!!
It took looking at almost EVERY posted item for a month before I found my living room sectional, but I got it for under $600, and it's perfect for us:

If you mean "on a budget" like *I* mean "on a budget", then the options mentioned above aren't something I can afford... With a little time/work dedicated to it, you can find some great chaises on CL for under $300.
Here's a round-up of several fainting couches, ranging from high to low prices.

Wow, that's a beautiful chaise! $3800 is ALOT though. Unfortunately, I've never seen one like it, so I can't help with your search, but I wish you luck!
I know this really doesn't fit into your aesthetic, but I actually got this same chaise, and it has definitely exceeded expectation! I just switch out throws or pillows when I change my duvet cover (it's in my bedroom) and it adapts to different looks easily. Since you're in the Bay Area as well, I thought I'd pass it along.

(And I say this as someone who is usually mortally opposed to microfiber--though it's still banned from ever making an appearance in the living room).
Consider custom by blending techniques at local shops (metal shop upholsterer), as I've had some amazing things made for way below market, an added benefit is that you can have it customized to fit your leg/back & style preferences & space. For instance a bed that I fell in love with was nearly $6K, but both out of my budget and out of scale for my home, I was able to get one custom made locally for <$1500 (delivered).
