Hi all,
Love the site and hoping you can help me out. I'm looking for a bar set-up. Someplace where I can keep the cocktail shaker, wine glasses and bottles o' booze.
I've been looking at all the usual design sites but haven't run across anything and thought maybe someone here would have an idea. My wood tones are oak and cherry and design is more organic modern.
Thanks for any suggestions! ~Ivy

Ivy,
If you're looking for a cabinet, we saw several on Craigslist a couple of days ago. (Actually, we believe that you can always find whatever you're looking for on Craigslist if you wait long enough.)
A friend of ours uses a sideboard/table.
Or you could use a cart. The photo you see is of a Danish modern walnut one that was on eBay, but that's just an idea.
Anyone have any other suggestions for Ivy?

I have to say while I don't mind a visible bar I find the display of the booze to be downright tacky. It's one thing to have the glasses on display but lest the booze is transfered to decanters or other lable-less containers it just looks bad.
Take the time to invest in a good bar, something with good counter/prep space, good hidden storage and a solid design.
I'm looking for a good-looking not too pricey bar that has wine storage behind cabinets. I have a two-year old, so open wine storage is an invitation to trouble. Our place doesn't have a lot of flat space to put a wine rack out of toddler reach either. We've been storing wine in the bedroom closet, but it's kind of a pain. I don't need a wine fridge - our collection isn't that fancy.
This is probably not what you want, but i think I saw someone on AT once use the over the door kitchen shelving from the container store to store liquor. I found this to be ingenious because I'd never thought of that. It's a thought I've been entertaining as I've been storing mine in the open on top of a chest. It's OK there, but kind of tacky, as someone else mentioned!
ReadyMade Magazine ran a great piece a few years back on small space solutions (this same issue featured Maxwell's small studio, if memory serves!). Someone has conveniently posted the article in pdf format, the link is in my name. Suggestion for the bar solution is on page six.
Just posted on craigslist - $30, in downtown/civic center/van ness area. I'd slap a coat of cherry stain on it and replace the pull with something black or pewter, but this would do for a little bar setup, and hide the bottles nicely.

I use one of these Heywood Wakefield tambour cabinets for a liquor cabinet in my guest room. Ice bucket and tray on top. See ebay item

i actually just got this at the dwr sample sale in palo alto for $119 (http://www.dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=7989). it needed to some TLC - i had to get the door replaced and fix the electricity. it's all dressed up now and i absolutely love it! beautiful simplistic design & of course, the price tag. for more affordable design advice - check out www.dressyournest.blogspot.com.
I just listed a Heywood Wakefield Bar and stools on Ebay item #290096173091. It is small enough to incorporate into a kitchen or dining area in a small space. In fact, I saw that a woman made her bar into an extension of her kitchen counter top as an eating area. Thanks for looking.
