ATDC reader Nia needs help finding a sofa for her Virginia home: Dear AT, I am in the process of decorating my living room and office, in a house that we bought a year ago but were too busy to spend time on. I want to put a sleeper sofa in the office and I really like Blu Dot's One Night Stand sleeper. There is only one unique furniture store in town but they have no modern sleepers even close to Blu Dot. Any ideas that preferably would keep the bill under $900? By the way I live in SW Virginia and the closest metro areas are DC and North Carolina's Triangle. Thanks for your help, Nia

I'm still on the hunt for something similar. Start commenting people! We need your advice!
In DC, Rckcndy carries Blu Dot. You might want to sit on it before you purchase. I loved the look of it in the pictures, but found the sofa itself quite uncomfortable (the fabric is almost itchy).
You might have a hard time keeping a new modern sleeper sofa under $900. Blu Dot is actually pretty reasonably priced. NC is a great place to pick up more traditional furnishings but I know of no modern furniture manufactured there. Maybe another commenter will know of an option.
How about the Anywhere Sofa from Urban Outfitters?
You are going to have trouble finding a good, new-production sofa for under 900, let alone a sleeper. I stress the *good* part. There is plenty of crap in this world that people are happy to sell.
Would you consider going used? Re-upholstered? Or even a comfy day-bed option? Or - to go totally college dorm-chic - a nicely made futon? Always try out big box stores like Room & Board or DWR for floor models - usually you can score a good deal there.

There's always Ikea.
I just got my first apartment and just got finished with some serious couch shopping.
I was depressed to discover that a decent couch for under $1000 is limited to Ikea or Thrift stores.
I found myself a cool 70's vintage couch for 75$ at a local consignment store. I live in Kentucky, and they are sorely lacking in decent furniture stores too. For a budget it's probably best to find a few decent Flea Markets. You might look for one that focuses on Modern design, there is a decent used furniture store near me that specializes in Mid-Modern Century pieces.
you are reasonably close to the only EQ3 store on the east coast (its either in richmond or norfolk). I got a sofa from them and i love it. Th price was about where you are looking and im sure fabric options and size will make abig difference. Check them out!
