What reason did they give for saying it is impossible? (I can't figure out why you couldn't do it -- you may need to go to an electrical store for some parts, but should be able to do it).

They told me that the pendant lamp shade was too heavy for the arched floor lamp.

world market, $100 . . . looks like the one suggested (with the three lamps. Perhaps you could fashion something . . . and remove the extra two. I'd also suggest craigs. I see arc lamps on there pretty often. And those ones are probably very sturdy and could support a heavier shade. Or perhaps you just need to find or fashion a lighter shade you like and then you can get that ikea lamp.

How about getting a basket that looks like a good shade (and is light) then ripping the paper off the regolit, and suspending the basket over the wire frame. You could also likely weave something onto that frame. Check out a craft store for some rattan or basket weaving materials.

I also have been trying to figure out how to hack this light with a different shade. I was thinking maybe I could weigh down the base to keep the whole thing from toppling over, but that would only work if the base was hidden behind something....

I did it with the knappa lamp. it has worked out well for us, it's over our dining room table. the only issue is it ends up hanging lower. So if you don't mind a lower light...it works. i thought about hanging a hook from the ceiling to give it a little more support at the arch of the stand.

Then find yourself another -- heavier and sturdier -- arched floor lamp to hack.

Try using this Target lamp (very similar to the IKEA one) and replacing the lampshade. I have it and use the paper lampshade, but I know that the base is very heavy and will probably support the basket shade.

Thanks for all your help everyone!! And Omaoriala that one is def more in my "budget" price range. I'm assuming it will be as easy as changing out the lamp shade, and Ikea has 3 different sizes to the Leran shade so hopefully this little DIY switch will work :)

Hi, I recently removed one of the segments from the IKEA regolit and shortened the cord and I was able to add the metal tellvik lamp shade to the regolit arc. Here is the results which I think turned out ok.
