Good Questions: Help with Furniture Placement in Studio?

ATDC reader Robin needs help setting up her new home: Hi! I'm moving from a 600-some square foot one bedroom to a 600-some square foot studio. I've never been great at arranging furniture unless arranging furniture means placing everything flatly against the perimeter of the wall. I've seen so many unique utilizations of studio apartments on your site and was hoping there might be a reader out there who enjoys doing this sort of thing that could provide a suggestion. Attached is the floor plan. It lists what "room" the space should be made into, but obviously I do not need to adhere to that. A couple things to note: 1) There is not much natural light in the apartment 2) There is a ceiling fan with light in the dining room...

I'm young and living on the cheap, so none of my furniture needs to be a focal-point or anything, it's mostly all Ikea. Again, I am fine with buying additional pieces if there is a good idea...

  • Full Bed w/ Iron frame

  • 6-drawer chest (64" length, 20" deep)

  • Nightstand (16" length, 16" deep)

  • 3-cushion couch

  • 1 ikea Poang chair

  • TV Console (67" length, 20" deep)

  • Coffee table, which I don't need to keep and am open to other table ideas, but I do eat at the couch (46.5" length, 31" deep)

  • Dining table & chairs (36" length, 36" width)

I would appreciate any assistance! Robin

This is the best time of year to be planning for a studio — there is tons of inspiration from the entrants in Small Cool 2009. Especially the Teeny-tiny division! Thoughts for Robin, oh talented readers?
