Neal asks:
"I'm in trouble. I have a cal king mattress being delivered to me on Sunday, but the platform bed I was going to get from West Elm is sold out throughout California. I don't like any of the Ikea options. Do you have any last minute recommendations for me?
Link To All Good Questions
Hi Neal, sorry we couldn't get this up in time before Sunday, but it still is a good question worth posting. One idea would be to try building one, perhaps using some large closet doors. In a recent house tour, AT reader Lori2 made a platform bed using closet doors and MDF. Here is a link to the post, and she discusses how she made it in the comments. We've heard that Plummers and EQ3 may also have more contemporary possibilites?
Does anyone else have any other suggestions?

Put it on the floor until you can get what you want. Don't buy something in a panic that you don't want.

I got a beautiful stainless steel platform canopy bed from Room and Board a couple of years ago and love it. They have other platform beds that might work for you.

Listen to Avocado - you will live with whatever you buy for a lot longer than the few weeks you go without a bed. Make a decision you can live happily with for 3, 4, 10 years rather than a quick decision you will be not satisfied with in a couple of months. You looked at beds and chose the one you chose for a reason - stick with it. However, if you are using this delay as an excuse to keep looking because you weren't all that thrilled with the West Elm bed in the first place, check Room and Board (the store is at South Coast Plaza or you can check it out online) which has a lot of contemporary well priced beds for quick delivery. For a bit more money (and keeping in the West Elm vibe), check out the Baronet Brasilia bed (temafurniture.com), the John Kelley Tau bed in ebony (2modern.com), or the absolute best bed for the price of any of these - the Atlantico 011 bed (atlantico-usa.com or velocityartanddesign.com). I saw it in person at the de la espada store when I was in New York - its really a great looking bed. The pictures don't do it justice. Good luck!
I have a similar problem and am very interested in building that platform bed from Lori2. I checked out the link and found her description in the comments, but where can I find the exact plans?
Is that bed going to be discontinued? Call the store and find out. If not, why not wait until it is restocked. In the meantime, sleep with the mattress on the floor like the others have suggested. If you're dying to have the bed now, or if it is being discontinued, just order it from the website for 659 plus 100 handling plus shipping.

Why don't you get a platform bed online? Search on Google, you will find tons of websites that sell them. My site http://www.bestplatformbeds.com provide some detailed info about platform bed as well(we do not sell directly though)
Sorry, I forgot to mention that I reposted your questions to the forum and hopefully someone will take a look and give you more ideas
Have you ever think about what type of mattress you get for your king platform bed? Sorry to say that, but you do have to consider that and you can either add another boxspring or not. Boxspring is not necessary as platform beds have its own bed slats. For the types of mattress, you can read the following info
