Lauren asks:
I am looking for a great compact digital camera. I'm overwhelmed with too many choices out there. We're done lots of research for you Lauren, and we've successfully narrowed it down to two cameras to give you one of the easiest choices in the history of Unplggd.
I don't need too many bells and whistles, but I'd like the following:
At least 5 mega-pixels
As little lag time as possible (I love to take candid snap-shots, but by the time the camera actually takes a picure, most people are posing!) Image stabilization Sturdy!Does anyone out there have a great camera like this that they could recommend?
Thank you!
Canon SD790 IS: This camera has received high ratings across the board for image quality, craftsmanship, and great image stabilization performance. Personally, being an owner of three Canon cameras now, I can reassure you won't regret going this route. Available for $307.
Sony Cybershot T100: If you are willing to push that budget even further, you can have both the advantages for great images with a tiny footprint with Sony's latest model that features amazing image stabilization, a sleek, ultra-slim design, and quick responsiveness. Available in black, silver, and red finishes for $699.

WOW! You weren't kidding when you said it was the easiest to answer. I'm totally stoked to go out and buy pone of the two you suggested today.
I'll report back on which one I choose.
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Watch out for Sony, they usually require you to use Memory Stick, which is much more expensive than the usual SD card or Compact Flash.
Check out the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 with Leica lens. Very solidly built camera with the image stabilization function that you were looking for plus many other features. For its price, around $250 I think, it takes excellent photos.
The lumix tz5 also has 720p video recording - sound is crap, but it's also very awesome. not sure about performance of image stab. tho.
Well, I decided to get the Canon. I'm picking it today, and am totally excited. Now my trip to Palm Springs can be properly recorded!
I have to agree with other comments here. I own two Panasonic Lumix camera's and could not be happier with the quality. They consistently get very good reviews and they can be had for far less than the Canon. The Sony with it's memory stick and its smaller lens is a non-starter, even though it is pretty.
Casio cameras are very fast, so you don't miss those candid shots. They also have incredible battery life. I don't have to take the charger on a weeklong vacation.
CANON all the way. okay, or NIKON. but i'm a canon whore, so there ya go. but seriously, their mechanics, sensors, lenses, batteries - everything - are just better, faster, less prone to breaking, easier to use, and if anything, canon has pretty decent tech support hehe
i'm a DSLRer, but i've instructed many family members to buy the Canon SD series (the newer model being shown above) and no one has complained. in fact, i'm now the family's resident geek :)
oh, i see you already chose, L-girl! what an excellent choice! ahaha
