Jamie writes in with a question about possible affordable options for a household storage solution:
I am looking for a more affordable version of this seagrass basket featured at Pottery Barn. Any help from your readers with some possible similar woven baskets in size and material, but at a more budget friendly price?

Do you have AC Moore craft stores out there? Maybe it's designed to appeal to New Year's resolutions to organize: They are stocking a lot of woven baskets lately (and tons of photo boxes--whether they're archival, I don't know). I didn't look closely at the baskets, so I don't know how nice they are or whether they're seagrass, but it's worth a look. World Market/Cost Plus and Home Goods are also worth checking.
Ikea, baby!
Wait a few months - They'll go on sale...
Check out places like Target or Pier 1.
World Market also is a great place to look for baskets.
I'd recommend any large crafts store, like Michael's. They usually have a wide selection of baskets, at reasonable prices. They also often go on sale and/or provide a coupon in their weekly ad.
I always see these at the discount stores like Target, TJ Maxx/Home Goods, IKEA, etc.
I was going to suggest World Market and Pier 1. Also, when I was in Target the other day they were setting up the seasonal space with a world/green theme decor...
Garden Ridge, if you have anything like that where you are...
excuse me, but I need to know where that green side board is from...anyone?
I was just as World Market, looking for baskets for my kitchen, and they had ones just like this.
The day before, I was at Hobby Lobby, and they had rows of baskets. They are cheaper than World Market.
If you have a Beverly's craft store near you they always have a ton of baskets and they always seem to be 50% off. Definitely worth a look.
Go down to the flower mart in downtown LA, and there's a number of places that sell these.
I'd suggest looking at Hobby Lobby. Be sure to print the 40% off coupon from their website- they usually have it just about every other week or so.
i found a basket nearly identical (mine has different handles) to the pottery barn baskets in the picture at Home Goods for 12 bucks! i use it on top of my fridge to store cereal and other boxed goods. love it!
WEST ELM.
My mom actually picked some up woven baskets at Big Lots. Try there!

I have those same baskets. I got them some time ago at Marshall's.
that green sideboard seems to be the bailey console table from potterybarn, but it's not available in green...only this brown color called cognac.

TJ Maxx, Home Goods, Marshalls, and even Ross are great places to find baskets and all kinds of bargains for your home decor!
I scored three identical enormous seagrass baskets at Big Lots, at different times: paid $60, then $50, finally $40 for the last one.
Now's a good time to check Big Lots -- they get decent stuff the first of the year and keep marking it down every few weeks. Some Big Lots have better selections than others.
Craft stores often have an assortment of baskets in all sizes, shapes and styles. I'm not a huge fan of wicker but picked up a set of wicker baskets at Michael's several years ago. It was $20 for a large basket then two sets of smaller baskets that fit inside the big one and another set of two even smaller ones. They've proven useful for all kinds of things!
I get great deals on nice baskets at Ross & TJ Maxx - I would also check IKEA
If you are in NY, check out Pearl River Mart on Broadway in Soho. Also, Ikea has a lot of cheap baskets.
Check back weekly until they go on sale. Accessories at places like Pottery Barn almost always end up on clearance or on sale at some point in the year so that they can make room for the new merchandise. I ended up with some great Pottery Barn baskets at half price by waiting patiently until they went on clearance. Frequently checking the website is tedious but important - once they go on sale, you will probably have a very short window of time (perhaps as little as 48 hours) before they are sold out. Once a clearance item is gone, its gone for good and you will have to find a new first choice basket and the whole waiting process starts all over again.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for a basket you like better for a lower cost. TJ Maxx, Homegoods, and Marshalls are all good hunting grounds, although the selection will be hit and miss and will change radically from week to week.
Target - I have something similar (oval) on top of my kitchen cabinets.
Check Ross and TJ Maxx type stores, they have tons of baskets for very cheap.
i found baskets in seagrass very simular to these at Ross...same large size...holes on the sides instead of a handle...but they were only $12.99 each!! Granted their stock is hit or miss...i had to go to two Ross stores to get a pair, because each store only had one....but worth a shot for that price!
Oddly enough, Wal-mart has some by Canopy in dark and light brown for less than $10.
