I love Pottery Barn's Stratton Bed, however, the price is too high for me at $1,599. This bed would be the perfect solution to my over cluttered bedroom. I have not been successful in my search for something similar. Everything I have found is much lower with very minimal storage space. I like the taller platform style and the deep drawers with handles. Any suggestions?

At 13 inches, the CB2 bed above is almost as tall as the 15 inch Pottery Barn one (the ikea version is only 10 inches). So I would get that, and then buy some custom cabinet doors to cover the cubbies. You can put handles on them, and they'll at least look like drawers.
I scouted craigslist until I found an old storage bed cheap where I could keep the two cabinet sections and build onto it. Not finished yet but with gas from picking it up and paint, it's only cost me $140 so far.
When finished, it will be white, raised 4" off the ground and supported top and bottom by sheets of plywood so you get the effect of not sitting directly on the floor but you still get your storage.
The hardest thing about storage beds is finding a bedside table that allows access to the drawers at the head of the bed.
Though horrible in the color shown, this frame is cheap and has SO MUCH STORAGE. I have one at home and love it. Not sexy, but super functional. You can get with handles.
Fifteen years ago I bought a six-drawer queen-size captain’s bed from Gothic Cabinet and now I can’t imagine living in Manhattan without it. Sure, it’s ugly, but throw a king-size dust ruffle over it and nobody knows it’s there. I was able to simply stand my headboard against the wall and push the bed’s frames in to hold it up. (I wasn’t able to use the matching curved footboard, but I imagine a straight footboard could somehow be attached.) Bedside tables will indeed block access to the head-end drawers: that’s where you store old tax returns, teenage journals and stuff you rarely need access to. Gothic’s web site currently lists it at $349. For $449, I’m thinking of upgrading to the newer model that has the drawers on glides—and handles! Pinch me!
I just got the Bassett Furniture Redin Park Storage Bed. I love love love it... it's still a little pricey, but I bought the bed, mattress had it delivered and assembled, and spent about as much as the PB bed. (Watch out for sales -- they have them all the time). The best part, other than fabulous construction, is that the drawers are all cedar, so they smell fantastic.
Cheapest one I've seen is the Captain's Bed from 1-800-Mattress (under $400 for a Queen). They have a couple showrooms in Chelsea, but you'll probably want to give them a call first.
I recently bought a storage bed that's VERY similar to the Pottery Barn model (except it's got three drawers on each side instead of two drawers in the front). I bought it at an unpainted furniture store in New Jersey for about $800. It's a full size bed and it's made of solid Alder wood. It's high quality and very sturdy. I didn't get a headboard, but there are options for that too. Of course, I had to stain it myself, but that way I got the color I wanted too. You might try that route.
for bedside tables that won't block drawers, why not mount shelves on the wall next to the bed?
I looked everywhere too and I've decided to bite the bullet and just get the Stratton. Everything else looks like kids' captain's beds, looked like you put a mattress on top of two dressers or has poor space utilization. It's on "sale" now for 100 off the asking price and if you mail order it through Shop Discover (for discover card holders) you can get a %5 cashback reward. Better than nothing.

I could just see my klutzy self scratching up my legs on those corners and it annoyed me that it looks like you lose a good 3 inches of storage space all the way around under the platform. Who thinks these things up??
Does anyone own a Stratton bed with drawers and is willing to answer a few questions of mine before I decide to get one? The PB.com folks have no additional info/pics besides what's on the site.
