AT:LA reader Smita asks us:
What is that blue thing under the vase called? Where can I find it?
Any pointers about where to find the vase would be helpful as well.
Thanks,
Smita
Dear Smita,
We're 99.9% sure it's a cake stand--and 60% sure it's vintage. And we're 100% sure that we love this alternate use as a plant pedestal. We found some similar items on eBay (like here and here). But if you're looking for something newer, there's also the classic cake stand from Nigella Lawson (comes in beautiful robin's egg blue!) or Martha Stewart's version in cream.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

Home Depot has planters like that. In the same white with texture. I have one that looks to be smaller, withe textured lines. I can't help you with the cake stand, though. Cakes don't linger in my house long enough to need that.
OH! Don't forget Rosanna (rosannainc.com). Their stuff is lovely and quite reasonable!
That looks to small to be a cake stand, but same general idea. I have one of a similar size (Salvation army $1) that is vintage and I think was meant for a candle arrangement with flowers or something like that. I'd scour garage sales and thrift stores if I were you.
