kimg924: It will live in a very small dining foyer (between an entrance door and living room). Our apartment is a pre-war, so the room has a built-in bookcase, crown molding, and an archway. It is painted a soft, sage-y green and has a bronze chandelier in it (original to the apt). There is currently no other furniture in the room.

We'd prefer to stay away from upholstered seating as the room is small, but wouldn't mind any suggestions on this.

A friend is giving me a table just like that, I'm going to buy black chairs since I think it will be hard to match the wood colors and just use those cushion seats in a nice color to put in them.

My friend currently has blue and white checkered upholstered chairs she is using with hers.

I think the reason that the OP is having such problems choosing chairs is that she chose the wrong table.

She says her style is "Traditional, Art Deco, Ethnic, and Bohemian" - but oddly, she purchased a little country/shaker table...

i have a table exactly like that. i like these chairs from pier one. they are inexpensive and i like that i can afford to change out the colors seasonally.

I like a ladderback chair too. I urge you not to buy chairs online, though. You should sit on them before buying. If your chairs are really comfortable, your parties will be more successful.

bepsf, we are a little country, too. I guess we just buy furniture we like and it all works.

Beware of shaker chairs for a dining room. They're lovely, but really not comfortable.

I agree that you should sit in them first, everyone finds different things comfortable.

We have ladderback chairs that are comfortable. I guess that's why I think you should definitely sit in the chair before you buy it.

I too like the Crate and Barrel chair jfinteriors linked to, it is has a graceful leg and seat.

You have to be careful with the scale of the chair when you have a shaker style table. The beauty of your table is that it has a lovely slim profile. You don't want to ruin it with clunky looking chair. Have fun!
