Hey there! I recently bought several of these vintage saarinen tulip knockoff chairs & table. I'd love to get some cushions for them, similar to the ones on some of the other real (& knockoff) versions I've seen. Does anyone know where I could find them, or know of someone they could recommend who could make them?
Thanks a bunch, Chris

HighbrowFurniture.com sells authentic cushions for $279 and they offer a wide variety of upholstery fabrics. Does anyone have any recommendations for less expensive, knock-off cushions?

Any Upholsterer could make you cushions. Its just upholstered foam cushion with zippered cover and you will need to add velcor to secure the cushions in place.
Just take a picture of the Tulip chair with the cushion and take one of your chairs in and have them make the cushions for your chair. I doubt the cushions would be the same specifications as the Tulip because most knock off do vary differently in size, etc.
The cost is in the fabric, if you find an inexpensive fabric you might be able to have a cushion for under 279.00
$279 for a cushion??
Find an old one on e-bay (ugly, ripped, who cares). Use a seam ripper to disassemble it, and use the pieces as a pattern. If you don't want to do the sewing, take it to your local seamstress or upholsterer and they should be really inexpensive.
Try here.

It is a shop located in a town right outside of Houston. The Texas version of Pasadena. Their seat cushions are made by a company called Artesia for $89 a piece.
I have a similar chair, without the arms, and I made my own cushion for them.
Purchased vintage prints fabric, batting, padding, and go at it with a sewing machine. Can email you photos if you want.
It cost about $25, so your >$279 is a lot!
If I ever opt for a change, I'm going to make new covers for the cushion in Amy Butler fabrics (~$11 or more/yd). FUN!
Ugh, even trying to find these on eBay is a challenge. I gave up for mine and draped Ikea sheepskins on each. Looks rad and textural. See: http://fotoflat.onsugar.com/1920600
Well I just bout a complete authentic Knoll Saarinen Tulip Table and 4 Chairs. They are the real thing...seriously they are.
I got it for $100.
I want to sell it. How can i go about cleaning them properly. Does anyone know?
I realize this post is a few years old, but in my search for cheap Saarinen-style replacement cushions I came across this page and figured I might be able to add some more up to date info should anyone else be frantically searching for affordable replacement cushions for some salvaged tulip chairs.
1.) MetroFurniture in Houston still does sell knock-off cushions for Saarinen chairs, at $89 they are definitely one of the cheapest out there. Their cushions sat a little funny in my 1960's armchairs but other than that they did the trick and seemed well made.
2.) There is a place I found on ebay that is located in the San Francisco bay area that sells virtually the same tulip chair cushions new for $50 in a variety of neat colors and fabrics. At that price, I couldn't pass up the deal! I traded my old red cushions out for a couple of bright orange wool twill ones, I spent less than $200 and my tulip chairs look amazing again! I couldn't find a website for the company but I know they do mail-order. E-mail dirtcheapdesigns@gmail.com for pictures of their products or to place a order.
An inexpensive alternative to expensive Saarinen Tulip chair replacement cushions is to consider Tulip Toppers by my company, Walbea retro design.
They are basically Tulip chair seat cushion covers that slip over your existing Burke or Saarinen Tulip chair and make them look brand new. Made of premium Tuscany velour, they come in a variety of cool colors and feature high-strength elastic for a snug/wrinkle-free fit. Cost is $29 for Tulip side chair cushion covers and $39 for the Tulip armchair version.
Check out Ebay and/or Amazon. I have stores at both sites and you can find them for sale at both.
BTW, we also make Tulip chair replacement cushions at a much lower cost than Knoll. Depends on the fabric used, but average price is about $79 - $89. Common fabrics include passion suede, vinyl, sunbrella and Tuscany velour. We've worked a long time on getting just the right size and shape, so they sit very well.
You can always reach me directly from my website www.walbea.com for questions or to order them.
Thanks. -Retro Rob Thomas
