Melanie sent us this picture of her son's room along with this email:
Hi,
I'm looking for a cool bookend for my son's books on his bookshelf. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Melanie
What a fun question!
Bookends are tricky. You want something strong enough to hold the books securely, and yet not heavy enough to cause an injury to your child.

We like these Bunny Bookends available at Giggle. They aren't too "little bunny" cute and come in bright, fun colors.
We've also posted before about Pakhuis Oost Bookends. These have a more vintage feel to them.
Anyone have any other ideas for Melanie?

I've been on a bookend search too and got these

from Moma as they're functional, simple, and inexpensive. These are cute too and were posted on another Apartment Therapy site

They are super cute!
i found a really awesome piggy bank on etsy and filled it with pennies for weight. you can seal off the hole so that pennies dont get consumed or fill it with something else.

romp brooklyn has some cute bookends
where did you get that blanket hanging over the crib?
Hi Melanie,
I saw those leather animals in a book store in Toronto (called Type) and they're really functional, but I like those red rabbits the best so far!
Great looking nursery, by the way. Lucky little fella.
Thanks for all the great ideas!
It's nice to see there's so much out there.
I love the idea of using a piggy bank too.
I made the blanket from Amy Butler fabric (and also a matching crib skirt).
I love those Joseph Adler bookends from Barnes and Noble too. They look light weight and sturdy, perfect for a nursery.
jonathan adler has some cute ones too.
Love the nursery! Does anyone know which crib that is?

Beautiful room!
Where is the mobile from?
Thanks!
The mobile is Tiny Love, it's from Babies R Us.
We have the Tiny Love mobile, too. It rocks!
Funny coincidence: I just ordered the Jonathan Adler bookends yesterday after seeing them on AT. I've been looking for bookends forever. I wish they were already here -- I'd give you a review.
My grandfather made the best bookends EVER for my cousin.
They were working in the yard and grandpa asked Mitchell to hold up this pile of logs/sticks. They weren't actually going to fall down, he wasn't in any danger. Then grandpa took a pic of this, had it reversed and (I guess) glued one of each direction onto a piece of wood. He then used a scroll saw to cut each one around the image. So it looks like Mitchell is holding up the books.
It is awesome, not in the Vally Girl sense, though!
These don't look heavy:
