Robin wrote in with a question about a craft project:
I just purchased this wooden toy box at a garage sale and I want to design a pattern to burn into the wood (I think it's called Pyrography, but I'm no professional). I'm looking for a cool, graphic tree/branch/log pattern, showing the woodgrain. Have you seen anything like this or do you have any ideas? Thanks!
Great question! We have a couple of suggestions after the jump. Are there any woodburning crafters out there? Help Robin out in the comments.
When we need crafting inspiration, we always look to Etsy. Once again, it did not disappoint.
We found this fabulous woodburned treasure box in a shop called Sixth and Elm:
They have a lot of different tree designs, so we definite recommend checking them all out.
We also found this simpler design at a shop called Lazy Lightning Art:
We like the combination of woodburning and painting in this project, especially for a children's toy box.
We were also intrigued by the simplicity of this design of tree rings on cork, found at a shop called Ottoman:

Can anyone else direct Robin toward some tree, branch, or log patterns that would lend themselves to woodburning? Do you have any other woodburning tips to share?

A good place to look for your pattern or pattern inspiration is www.istockphoto.com. You can narrow your search to just illustrations and then just by "tree" or whatever. The file you buy (for $1-$10 usually) can then be adjusted to any size you want.
