Hello AT,

So I moved to Park Slope in December. ...

so i somehow thought that i need a sofa. somehow...
i have room for it...
i even taped the location on my floor because:
i like this guy here: The Petrie.
and chair and ottoman...

i checked them out at the store... they are cool.
very solid... sofa works as daybed... very well...

i was not so crazy about a white color of the piece, but C&B
also offers charcoal as an option so i got that...

ordered on sunday.
exciting...

crate and barrel calls me today to confirm the order.
the sofa will take about 20 weeks to deliver.
nice.
I was born in poland, you know... my uncle waited for his phone
connection for several years, and so i was ready to get my sofa
and chair and ottoman in late august.
yey...

custom made for me...
in a mere 20 weeks... (half a pregnancy?)

then the lady asked me if the piece would fit through my door...

because
the feet are not detachable...
this makes the sofa 34 inches thick...
i did not think it would be a problem really...

well, my doors are 28 inches wide... all of them.
i can not get the sofa...

well, i think i could get it... if only i could detach the feet...
or if i could have a human conversation with the manufacturer... because
the person there is certainly a human being and they would understand...
right?...
but crate and barrel will never let me speak to anybody but
crate and barrel... and all the conversations are recorded for quality
assurance...

so...

do you know where i can get that kind of sofa... but maybe smaller?
do you know who makes this sofa?
do you know if there is a way to detach the feet after all... and maybe
not believe that C&B info read off a sheet in some call center?...

do you know?...

hope you found the above amusing... and not annoying..
; )

only the best -witold

Dear Witold, very amusing and long winded. We can barely fit you through the door, and only if we take off your legs! In the meantime, you should know that the Petrie is a modelled on a classic mid-century design and isn't too hard to find. Here are three quick options:

  • Room and Board has a number of similar sofas - and in smaller sizes
  • Dune makes a version - called the Climate - which is sweet and can be adjusted dimensionally (pretty sure)
  • White on White has cheaper knock-odds
  • The Unique Furniture Service - if you really love it, these guys can dissassemble any sofa and get it into your apartment for $100-$200
