Michelle wants to hear feedback from owners of an IKEA piece she's smitten with:
I am looking for a new chair for my apartment and LOVE the Karlstad swivel chair and ottoman from Ikea. Curious of the quality? Looking for a chair with a contemporary/interesting shape. Any suggestions of something else out there with the same price point? I prefer online shopping sources as an option. Thanks!

You said you prefer online shopping, so I'm wondering if you've sat on it. I liked the look of it, but found it to be very stiff and hard.
i have to agree with truetex. ive sat on it. Its not comfy
Yeah, not comfy at all.
That's a shame. It looks comfy to me...I also liked it, but just from seeing it online.
I don't necessarily prefer online shopping. I live in the midwest...the closest ikea is 8 hours away in Houston TX...so no, I have not sat in it. My choices for furniture are so limited. It's really cool looking though. Thanks for the feedback!
I love the shape and colors available, and there's also a matching ottoman sold separately.
The upholstery is baffling, though....100% wool, and a little rough. Oh, and yes, it's kind of stiff, as well.
I actually bought it because we wanted a rocking chair piece for when the baby came, and have LOVED it. I'm small (5'3") and fit perfectly. My dog sleeps on it all the time, so it gets vacuumed every time the rug does because of the wool, but I thought it was quite worth it.
If you want comfort, go for the Lunna. For 1/3 of the price you get a VERY comfy seat. I went shopping for a relative's new home with the Karlstad in mind. When I sat on the Lunna, the decision was clear. He hasn't had it for long though so I don't know about the quality. Oh and the fabric is much nicer.
You say "stiff and hard" like it's a bad thing.
Seriously, though, what kind of chair are you looking for... one that you sink into and fall asleep in, or one that gives you support to read or watch TV? If the second, then "stiff and hard" is (once again!) a good thing...
I've actually tried out the chair and found that it is perfectly comfortable for reading or watching TV. Patrick....your comment was hilarious!
I wasn't impressed with it--it felt cheap to me. (This coming from a person who thinks most IKEA quality is just fine.)
un-comfortable... has a good shape but to retain that shape it feels like your sitting on the world's hardest styrofoam.
i tried sitting on it at the store. it was very comfy. (i prefer non-cushy chairs.) i am a designer, and i think it's nicely made. i don't like how people get so critical just because it's from Ikea. com'on they do have some cool stuff.
