"I've been on the market for a set of relatively small speakers (from Bose-sized to bookshelf) for a new surround sound system I'm setting up in my living room. I've heard the Bose ones, but I don't think they have enough bass by themselves - but when I combine them with my subwoofer, the sound becomes quite overwhelming. Please help me find the perfect speakers!"
Of course, Adrienne. We've been on the lookout for such speakers and so here they are...
We found the Definitive Technology Procinema 800
5.1 system was the perfect match for your description of small footprint, heavy sound. Because the speakers cleverly use the top surface as a reflection of sound, the extra driver that radiates off creates enough air pressure change that you can feel bass that's warm, crisp, and realistic.
They are available for about $900 for the entire set. However, skimping on the subwoofer should save you about $400, but we like our bass so we'd suggest grabbing the system as a whole. Again, hearing is believing, so go out to your nearest electronics store that carries the brand to have a demo listen.
