I could easily see something with a tiffany styled stain glass lamp shade - and you can get those pretty cheap online (long as you stay away from the actual Tiffany label).

I know you want a floor lamp , but I think a little end table with a table lamp would look better. ( not sure how the rest of the space looks ) and if you are wanting a spacious and " non cluttered " look , i'd say a small lucite/clear table with a funky/modern lamp would be great for the space. If you want a cheap lamp , thrift store , not to mention ebay have a great variety and then you can buy the shade anywhere...and always change the color with some fabric paint. Hope that helps !

For a conversation space, your guests need somewhere to place a drinks. You might consider an end table with a small lamp. Make a statement with the lamp. A simple end table would do fine.

Personally, I think those chairs would look more comfortable used with a small round pedestal table and small table lamp as an extra eating/library area.

The beautiful chairs you got from you grandmother demand warmth and old style charm. IMO the only way modern will work is if it exudes that warmth, something wood, maybe a bookshelf/lamp combo. I think Art Deco could work in this space as well. A small area rug to define the space would also lend a little charm. Personally, I would go with a rug that has an oriental feel to it, and a lamp a little taller with a full lampshade. Also, the wall color does not compliment these chairs. Do you have a colorful poster you can put on the wall?

I would agree with the others who suggested a table with a ceiling light. My living area came with no lights, but I used the cord kits from ikea to create two ceiling lights, and it really helps define a space.

Without a table the chairs seem totally decorative. I support the pedestal table and hanging lamp ideas above.

A black lacquered pedestal table with a glossy black table lamp would look pretty striking against the white wall next to those chairs.

I like the previously mentioned idea of a small table between the chairs. I'd add a funky antique lamp, with a one-of-a-kind shade from etsy.

What's wrong with an end table and lamp? Would look classier and give people a place to sit a drink or book if they happened to be sitting there.

For some reason I keep envisioning a little chandelier, something with crystals, maybe hanging over a very plain, modern, small round table. (Thrift store, maybe?)

As far as stand lamps go, I think the IKEA KULLA lamp is always classy.

i have this but be prepared for a broken three-way (50/100/150). it's cast iron so heavy to return, but if you can just get one that work properly, it is quite the looker.

Oooh, I love the two Design Public lamps suggested by Becky! If they aren't too expensive for you, that would be a great way to go. If not, I just bought this floor lamp online from Target for $150, and it looks really great in person. It's slim, which I needed for my space, and simple & elegant. It has a double shade, and a wooden pull chain, which are nice touches. An understated lamp would let the chairs be the stars.

How about a '50s- or '60s-vintage floor lamp with a built-in table? It could be chrome or brass or wood, maybe with a glass top. I see those all the time at garage sales and thrift stores.

The sleek tubular style of the Ikea Textur lamps might create a nice contrast. They're sold in two and three section models in plain white or a pattern. One of my first plans for mine are to use some vellum and ribbon for some different looks.

Although I think the chairs are lovely, slip covers--from the slightest 2 pieces to full coverage ones--offer more style and color options while leaving the chairs unchanged. If those chairs ever need a new home, I'm willing to adopt :D

I love the cancan lamp carried at Design Public and suggested by becky. And I know I'm in the minority of opinion here, but I dislike random tables (why do people always want to add tables?) and prefer floor lamps. Or the effect of just a pendant lamp over this space. This feels like a decorative area in a bedroom which makes a table seem superfluous.

Although a rug could totally pull that corner together.

I just wanted to support the OP that that is a hideous lamp. I hate and I've always hated it. It reminds me of a mummy.

If space is a concern consider a wall mounted sconce/lamp.

I think a lamp with a mica shade would be nice.

And move the monkey somewhere else.

If you want a seating area, why not add a table with a lamp on it? Otherwise there isn't focus for the sitting area.... Where lay your book? =)

i personally love the idea of some of the floor lamps from ikea like the KULLA lamp... I know you said nothing pricey but i love the panton panthella lamp with those chairs.

I know I already posted, but honestly, floor lamps are for spaces where you either don't need an end table/nightstand or in a corner where you just need light.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!! I have a lot to think about now. I would love to hang a light there, but I live in a loft with really high ceilings that are all wood, so I'm not sure how to really go about that.
