Dear Apartment Therapy, We are being offered a great price on some lovely walnut Cherner armchairs and would love to snatch them up, but am unsure about which round dining table would go besides the Cherner round, even though we love the table...we are quite reluctant to have a “dining set” even one as fabulous as a Cherner set. Any suggestions for round tables not glass or marble? Thank you! V&F
Since glass and marble are out, we'd like to suggest a table with a slate top.
Who else has suggestions?

Seriously, I'd take that dining set as shown. It's gorgeous!
I have two Cherner armchairs paired with an oak pedestal table and I think they look great. In our case the pedestal table has a very similar stain as the walnut Cherners, I'm less confident the two dissimilar styles would work so well if they were not united in hue.
As a side note they make surprisingly comfortable dining chairs. Congrats on getting them at a nice price!

I like the Knoll Risom table also. Sort of the same style but breaks it up from being a "set". It comes in the same finish as the Cherner chairs and only costs $1081.00

A Saarinen (or Ikea Docksta) table always looks good with Cherner chairs.

Not sure what your room decor looks like, but the first thing that came to my mind was a white Knoll Saarinen table with those chairs. I think the tulip base and clean lines would pair beautifully with the curves of the chair arms, and the white finish would help it avoid coming off as matchy-matchy while highlighting the warmth of wood and depth of finish on the chairs. There are plenty of reasonably priced imitators if the original Saarinen is out of your price range.
An IKEA Docksta table next to 2 Cherner armchairs seems a bit comical. A Saarinen tulip table would definitely do them justice.
I share your dislike of perfectly matched furniture sets. I'd go with a glass and steel, or light wood, table. I'd stay away from anything in walnut. Check out roomandboard.com for some fabulous tables, or crateandbarrel.com, or even IKEA.
Like Matilde I have the Cherner arm chairs with an old pedestal table - they look great together in my opinion but I think they look good with the Cherner table as well.

I agree - Rather like wearing a ballgown with fuzzy pink bedroom slippers...
Yes to the saarinen tulip table!
I have 5 black Cherner chairs paired with a 54" arabescato marble topped saarinen table and it is simply stunning! I really think this is the best table for these chairs, much better than the (lovely) Cherner round table itself!
Vitra carries a prouve gueridon table that is perfect. I have it with a white top matched with 4 cherner chairs. Check it out.
Are you married to the idea of a round table? I know someone who has 6 Cherner chairs at a rectangular dining table. The contrast between the round curves of the chairs works very nicely with the straight edges of the rectangular table. Might work just as well with two chairs at a square table.
Well, whatever else, don't pass up a deal on those chairs (if you love them) simply for lack of a table decision.
I tell clients all the time that the base of the table is really pretty unimportant. Once you put chairs all around it, the styling is usually lost. That said, I would recommend a pedestal base to best accommodate the flared arms on the chairs. The most important consideration is the finish on the table top. I think something contrasting rather than matching the finish on the chairs would flatter them most.
