Michael is looking for a local interior decorator who can help him with his small space decoration challenge:
How can I find an interior decorator with a mid-century modern aesthetic to help me decorate a 375 square foot L-shaped living/dining room. The only thing in the space now is a recently purchased dining table from DWR. I need help with everthing from wall color to window treatments. The problem is my budget is $15,000 and I can't find a designer who will take on a small project. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

hi! I feel like you just dropped out of the sky and into my lap (don't take that the wrong way). It's just that I've been working as a film and television editor for the past 5 years, after getting an MFA in directing, and have recently realized that I think I'd rather be doing interior decor. I grew up with 2 architects so design is in my blood! Anyway, about a week ago I sent out an email to everyone I know saying that I'd love to do some decorating jobs pro-bono just to create a portfolio. I have gotten a great response, and have a couple of small projects going, but I am looking for a really exciting one and it sounds like it might be your place. Anyway, if you want to contact me you can email me at: juliainez@mac.com. Sorry to everyone else for making this personal, but I don't know how else to get in touch with Michael : )

Yes, how do we get in touch with Michael?
Are you planning on structural changes (i.e. knocking down walls or ripping out plumbing)? If not, I recommend posting at a design school. I'm sure students would love to have something for their portfolios and would work with you on a budget. If you need special access to the LA equivalent of the D&D building, they probably have connections.
Hi Michael,
I am an Interior Stylist and specialize in modern, mid century modern and contemporary residences.
My projects reflect an insane passion and interest in modern living and a desire to connect my clients to the beauty of our surrounding environment and the rich heritage of modernism in Southern California.
I strive for functionality and simplicity and emphasize clean lines, flow and openness. I don't charge markups and work with any budget. I work in both Orange and Los Angeles Counties.
For more information, a link to my website and current online portfolio, please feel free to get in touch with me at modernmecca@gmail.com
Good luck and best regards.
If you're not satisfied with Julia, you might try contacting one of the prominent interior design/interior architecture programs, (Art Center School, UCLA, USC). They may have contacts with either graduate designers or students who may be interested in your project.
Some of the prominent furniture stores like Stickley, Audi & Co, Robb & Stucky, etc. have in-house designers who may be willing to take on your project.
Good luck.
This is what the local ASID chapter is for - to help match clients with appropriate designers.
I read in the most recent Los Angeles Magazine about an interior designer in their "Tastemaker" section named Kyle Schuneman who specializes in small spaces. His website is www.KyleSchuneman.com
Hi Michael,
I'm just the interior designer you're looking for. As some of the posts suggests, I'm a graduate of UCLA's Interior Design program (December 2006), I specialize in mid century design and working with small spaces and small budgets. I've worked for architects and interior designers, I'm an ASID member and I just took the NCIDQ exam. I'd be happy to meet with you and further discuss your design needs. Feel free to contact me at michaelj@michaeljeromedesign.com
Best Regards,
Michael Jerome
