Dear AT, I love the brown leather chair in this picture (from New York Magazine's current issue — it's a room in the new Standard Hotel), does anyone know where I can get one like it? Thanks, helmutkang

What a view! Anyone?

Shaw's Original Fir...
Why not just ask the people in charge of purchasing at the Hotel?
It's the K2 by Koi Design of the UK

You used to be able to get the koi chair at velocityartanddesign.com. I have been eyeing that chair for the longest time, but I remember it being ridiculously expensive. Expect to pay $1600
It's hand-stitched leather, an incredibly beautiful saddle made into a chair... dunno, but I find the price in keeping with what it is.
That view just gave me a mini panic attack.
The pendant lamp is cool too.
I was expecting at least one comment about the bad Photoshop job...
sorry Forestdweller you've been in the forest too long!!! there is no photoshop going on there!!! that is the view and that is what makes it fabulous!!! it is a gorgeous hotel with the most amazing views!!!! every room has floor to ceiling windows and they are brilliantly designed!!!maybe you should see it before trashing the pic.
You are correct. It is by Koi, and we used to carry it at Velocity. We had no issues with the quality of this chair, nor the fantastic people that create this fantastic item. They switched their manufacturing facility in 2007, and it caused all kinds of lead time issues which we couldn't seem to get resolved, so we had to drop the line. The price was indeed high I remember. I have one left in my house that I'm actually looking to sell if you want to buy it. We switched to different desk chairs, but still have one in great shape. You can contact me at john@velocityartanddesign.com and we can talk more. Best- John
We have a bar here that has both the bar stools and the very low to floor chairs from this range. They are the most comfortable, beautifully made seats ever.
I see from your posting history, Harrydog, that you are that rude to others, too, so I won't take offense. I do not doubt that this is the view from some of the rooms in his hotel. That photo was not taken as shown, however. "Photograph much", Harry? (To paraphrase one of your old posts.)
The S.O. and I stayed at the NY Standard over New Years during their "soft launch" (yes, I live in Manhattan, but it was fun to be one of the first guests and check out the design)and I can attest to both the fabulous water view as well as an equally appealing city view. We were put into one room, but when we asked about the promised tub (some rooms have large double shower head showers instead), we were moved to another. It was fun to see the different rooms. One note - their queen beds and king beds are the same length - only about 6 ft max, so if you're at all tall, plan on sleeping on the angle!
Glad you appreciate the chairs as I know they were labour of love. The designer Adam Bottomley made the first few thousand by hand and then oversaw the thoughtful production of them in Italy up to 2007. After he parted ways with his business I believe production changed dramatically. Ahh to have a hand sewn original. Velocity John I hope you didn't sell your last one.
