Help Adam with his search for a sofa:
I'm hoping someone in the AT community can help me find an affordable solution for a high end wish. I'm looking for a high quality seating option that looks like the Ligne Roset Togo sofa. While I'd obviously love an original, I simply can't afford the price tag...
The most prevalent reproduction out there seems to be the Downlow sofa made by Alphaville. Does anyone have this sofa? What do they think?
The other sofa I'm considering is the Looks sofa made by Elite Design Furniture. While I've heard a good recommendation from someone who owns this sofa, I think its form departs too much from the original Togo.
Any help or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Grub worms anyone?
exactly... but they do look comfy
Adam--
There are some things in life - like Herman Miller's Eames Lounge Chair, Levi's Jeans, Porsche's 911, springtime in Paris and diving off the Great Barrier Reef - where there is no substitute for the real thing.
Either save until you can afford the real Togo or buy pre-owned: but you'll never be satisfied with a cheap knockoff.

I just saw one listed on LA craigslist over the weekend...that may be your best bet....
I've actually found these to not be very comfortable. Too low to the ground, and not great back support. I like the look of them though, and would second the other suggestions of trying to find them slightly used. Ligne Roset has sample sales twice per year, you might try that also - I believe they have a mailing list that you can sign up for.
Expensive as it is, I wouldn't place the Togo sofa in the same category as springtime in Paris or the Eames lounge - some pieces are just damn overpriced for no good reason. If one of the alternatives is of decent quality and comfortable, why not go for it? Not everyone is looking for a piece of furniture to bequeath to their grandchildren.
Ligne Roset is having a 15% off upholstery sale during the month of March...
A while back I saw a complete Togo knock-off on a sofa site. The name of the company escapes me but I found it in a list of sofa sites on AT.
Hey! --
we've owned a Togo since 1989, and the reason we replaced ours is precisely because it *IS* so very comfortable that we couldn't live without it! It is the most comfortable furniture for being a couch potato, snuggling, reading... although I will allow that it is not great for pregnant women and people with bad knees.
And in the current issue of French Elle Decoration, the Togo *is* in the same timeless category as Eames, Saarinen, the Navy chair, etc.
Ligne Roset has sales once or twice a year, and that is when to buy. We bought our first Togo as impoverished grad students -- I had been setting money aside for a long time specifically to buy a Togo (I fell in love with Togo when I was about 8 or 9).
I write this post comfortable ensconced on my Togo...
hey there, there are a couple of like new pieces on ebay right now that are very fairly priced. they are both in shades of beige. i have a couple of pieces and absolutely love them, and got them for a song on craigslist.
which pieces are you looking for specifically? shoot me an email at cnmngrrrl@gmail.com and i might be able to help you access some used stuff as well.
best!

I would look for someone that is selling a used one on ebay or craigslist. Just be patient and one will come along.
That looks like something you'd find in a dorm room.
We just got our Togo loveseat and ottoman---in Aubergine microsuede---delivered a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I'd been in love with the design for years and finally splurged. We find it's very comfortable, cozy, and beautiful.
Not a fan of this, i hope nobody would pay for the expensive one. It looks sloppy, unsupportive and too low to the ground... those kinds of sofas are so hard to get out of!
I agree with the other readers: save for the real thing. I bought our Togo 2 years ago and we are very happy with it. I wouldn't place this sofa with anything else! Just buy one on craiglist, ebay or save for a new one.
Robyness: Are you employed by this piece-of-crap store or do they pay you by the post?
hey, adam, email me. i might be able to help you out. just need to know exactly what you are looking for.
sh
I love the look. But I found Togo to be too uncomfortable.

Hey!
My boyfriend has a Ligne Roset Togo sectional in Royal Blue. We are moving in together soon and we don't have room for all of it. We are selling the 3 seater couch and corner chair. It is 2 years old and like new. Only problem is we live in Pennsylvania. Maybe we could ship. Let me know if you are interested. jesibel777@aol.com
Whatever you do don't go for a knock-off, you'll only regret it. Either see if you can get one used on CL/Ebay or save up another year for a new one. Buy a $200 Ikea sofa to tide you over.
I was lucky enough to inherit 2 very early Togos (late 70s) in brown and even though they are tatty now, there's no way I'd part with them. And everybody who comes to my place plonks themselves straight into the Togos even though I have lots of other nice chairs. We call them the Alfs... in brown they look like the nose of the TV alien of yesteryear :-)
go to http://onestopmodern.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=togo&x=19&y=3
we have them in red, mocha or black.
I would not settle for anything other than an original Togo from Lignet Roset. I started with a pre owned grey velor 2 seater and three seater from the 1980's I sold these about a year later doubling my money went on to purchase another pre owned in orange velor. I sold this making a small profit (£100ish) I now have a Black leather set that I am selling to fund my next Togo which will be a colored leather one.
I am in the UK so not relevant to you but here is a link to my Set http://www.groovycart.co.uk/cart.php?c=46&p=1652
I would thoroughly recommend the Togo it is so comfortable. Maybe not suitable for anyone with mobility problems and older people may have problems getting up as it is rather low.
We offer a similar style sofa to this if you're interested. Here is a link to the Down Low Sofa and the other pieces in its product line:
Down Low Sofa
After 10 years of wanting one I finally ordered a two seater along with the footstool (ottoman) in wool instead of microsuede. The order can take 16-20 weeks and my one arrives in 2 weeks!
if you have a friend who's an interior designer or an architect they can purchase one for you with a 'Trade Discount' some countries this is up to 25%.
Its hard to find Togo on eBay as most ppl that buy this classic piece just wont sell them. The guy at Ligne Roset said that people who purchased Togo 20-30 years ago opted to pay same amount to replace the fabric than what would cost them to buy a new Togo!
I used several excuses to justify spending so much money
1. I always wanted a Togo sofa
2. Im too poor to afford cheap furniture (if you buy from IKEA you will end up having to buy another sofa in 5-6 years, then again. It adds up and your never quite happy!)
3. It's a highly desirable classic so it keeps its value if you ever decide to sell.
4. Think of it as an investment!
