Hello AT,
We've been living in this apartment for almost 2 years and the whole time we've had this plain white wall with nothing on it.
The wall is 14 feet high so we feel like we need something big to cover the space.
We've ruled out painting the wall because the opposite wall has already been painted teal and we don't want to deal with the logistics of painting another high wall.
We'd love some innovative ideas on how we can do something creative, but economical with this wall.
Thanks! David and Garret

Go to Ikea and load up on black picture frames....frame family photos and postcards....arrange them in a random way along this way. That would be very attractive!
I would say pile on the picture frames. Choose all black frames of different sizes and shapes, fill them with your favorite photos and cover the wall. Or maybe try some cool wall tiles. See this page on the Domino mag website http://www.dominomag.com/galleries/objects/winwallfloor/wallpaper/walltiles?slide=5#showHeader
What about hanging something soft, big and colourful like a rug or kimono (there was one yesterday in a house tour that was lovely) to soften it up a bit.
that wall is crying out to be Rasterbated: http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/
I was going to suggest getting a very large vintage poster but they tend to be really pricey. I'm not sure what else runs along that wall but you could try to hunt down some graphic print wallpaper, vintage or new, that you like. Try framing a large piece of it or several large pieces if you don't want the commitment.
Shannon, I was going to suggest that too, but forgot about rasterbater - can't you also do this at a copy/printer place?
Up cast lighting to a picture? Or something crazy attached to the wall, like Lego's or something.
Slap a couple of yards of Marimekko fabric (there are even sales) up there and it will cheer you beyond belief!
ANYTHING on that wall would make it more appealing than how it is naked.
Ditto Gallivant! Fabric can be a wonderful way to add color, texture and 'softness' to a bare space.
It's not the wall.
That staircase is stealing the show.
And it aint pretty.
Paint it, or take some time and come up with a 'look' for all the components on that side of the room.
Another use for Marimekko (or any interesting fabric) is to stretch it the way canvas is stretched on wooden frames. You buy the stretchers in groups of two so the resulting fabric wall hanging can be any size. Or posters. com has a terrific selection. I can see three large (think Georgia O'Keefe) posters hung one above the other. Try to find something with teal in it to make color sense of the space. Posters, and the fabric wall hangings, are not all that expensive which means you can change them as you wish. m
How about painting the stairs a bold color, say blue or red, and hanging pictures on the wall that pick up the color.
I bought some really neat, swirly wooden (rattan) "place mats" at Pier One in their clearance section ($2.50 a piece). They're 12x12 and with a little floral wire will be creating a very interesting wall 'art' hanging thing. As soon as I figure out if my office is moving soon or at the end of August!
But they were cheap, paintable (came in red), and LOOK like something that'd be displayed. And they cover a large area, are removable and reconfigurable.
i would stagger some related photos, posters, or other art up the stairs. it would accent the height of the room.
Hi,
I don't know if you are still looking, but there are some good and affordable Vinyl stickers at www.sweeenothing.etsy.com or www.sweeetnothing.ecrater.com
