"A multitude of small delights constitutes happiness." - Charles Baudelaire
We want to know: What about your small space (or small table, small closet, small kitchen) constitutes happiness in your life?

My small collection of nature makes me happy, especially the latest addition, a little tiny abandoned nest found by my husband and given to me as gift. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/hnxing/3478390257/) It makes me smile every time I see it.
Our deep red accent wall! I just love the color!

I've lived in many small spaces (<700 sq ft.) and at least one tiny space (<300 sq ft.) and always looked for a certain interesting quality of light. Even my half-basement one-bedroom apartment in Quebec City had intriguing things going on related to the south-east facing main windows. Happiness in small spaces is texture and interesting light, in my opinion.
My small (well, tiny) home is sized just right for me with enough storage that I have a place for all the things I need but don't want out.
My small apartment has taught me to give away stuff and not buy anything I don't really need. Finally getting 100% organized makes me happy. It's also easy to locate one's BF for a hug instead of having to walk aimlessly around, shouting "Where are you?"
Baudelaire was also a syphilitic, laudanum addict who wasted his inheritance, lived in near-poverty and was obsessed with his mother. He also wrote: "Personally, I think that the unique and supreme delight lies in the certainty of doing evil... ."
my undecorated high ceilings. the generous expanse above provides (literally, but more importantly figuratively) me the invaluable space in which to think and dream.
Living near a park. A plant that thrives. Birdsong---and knowing what kind of bird it is :) Eating ice cream with silver spoon, out of a china bowl that was your grandmother's. I have a fossil/rock my friend brought to me from Dover Beach, England. It makes me happy every time my eye passes over it. Having some one else's baby smile at you, because he recognizes you---that's a big one :)
Good quote... of course I prefer, "One must shock the bourgeois." But that's just me ;)

Anyway, my favorite small thing is the tiny closet with the tiny window that I am using as an office space in my apartment. It's amazing how the window helps to make it feel bright and airy- and using a closet as an office sure is getting the most out of my square footage!
my whole little apartment - when I moved here, I was downsizing for econimic reasons and resented the need to do so - but I have come to LOVE living in a small space! Everything I've read here about small, space living is true - it forces you to get organized (something I've been trying to do my whole freakin life!) - it makes you appreciate the things you really value (keepsakes, etc) and get rid of all the superficial junk you pick up over time. And best of all, a small living space is easy to clean!!!
When we lived in apartments (9 years until this year!) I would stare at a Susan Branch print that said "'Things taste better in small houses' - Queen Victoria (who otta know!)"
In one apartment I took our small master closet and turned it into a scrapbooking room. I added pegboards to the walls, had stacking drawers, and used a kids'-size desk to save space. I couldn't close the door while I was working, but that was ok - it was my own little nook. :)
As with Deco Detective, I like knowing that my husband is easily findable!
Knowing that our daughter doesn't even realize or care how small our space is. She's never known anything else. -And that I can hear every laugh and giggle as a result of our home's size.
