Think your home is pretty clean? Even if you dust regularly, we bet there are a few spots with layers thicker than a hardback book. Outside pollen is bad enough, so pick one room this weekend and spend a little time cleaning the high and hard-to-reach spots inside your home. This springtime chore clears out mental cobwebs and — literally — makes it easier to breathe.

This Weekend's Assignment: Pick a neglected, hard-to-reach spot and wipe away all the dust that's clogging up your airways and making you sneeze (or worse).

Clean Way Up High: If the idea of dust mites raining down on you from above just gives you the heebie jeebies, or actually triggers asthma attacks, get out the ladder and attack your lighting and ceiling fans all at the same time. Get those actual cobwebs while you're at it. These are the spots that don't get regular attention, but can really do a number on your health and well-being.

Filter, Filter, Filter: Protect yourself while you are actually cleaning, then keep improving the long-term air quality in your home. Although it looks goofy, face masks help prevent you from inhaling gross stuff while you dust. If you have a forced air system of heating and cooling, turn on the fan to catch all the tiny particles before they hit the floor. Change your system's filter regularly.

Remember, as with all of our Weekend Projects, just do what you have the time and energy to do. If you only get a chance to dust a single lampshade, you're doing well! Because that's one place in your home that's cleaner than it was on Thursday.
