We heard the sad news that the French furniture designer Pierre Paulin passed away this week at the age of 81. We found out from the staff at the Chicago Ligne Roset store, when we were in the shop taking these photos of his "pumpkin" line...
... a recent re-issue (designed in 1969) which, according to the Ligne Roset manager, has been very popular with todays customers. Obviously good design stands the test of time!
We've always admired his capability to meld a pop sensibility with simple, beautiful organic shapes; a combination which makes for colorful, joyful furniture. A few of our favorites are pictured above:

I believe there was a big retrospective of his work at a major museum in France this past year; it is good that he was able to enjoy the resurgence of interest by a new generation in his work.
R.I.P. His designs are timeless.
The loss of true talent.
You will definitely be missed, Pierre. May you find a comfy and beautiful place to sit in your new home in the sky.
