Jen asked the AT community for some advice on pulls for this desk back in April, so we thought we should share the results of this incredible transformation. After looking at the "before" picture, we have to say we are impressed that Jen and her family could see the possibilities; the "after" below the jump really blew us away!

We are stunned by the different a coat of paint and new pulls can make to a piece that had definitely seen better days. We are always happy to see folks inject some new life into old furniture, and are certain Jen's son Sam will enjoy this wonderful desk for years to come. The desk was painted Van Deusen Blue (Benjamin Moore Aura Paint)- a wonderful blue/grey that shifts subtly depending on the light. We love the desk coupled with the map wallpaper and the blue shelves above; Sam is one lucky boy!
You can see more pictures of Sam's colorful bedroom and the rest of the family home on Jen's Flickr page.
Thanks again to everyone who shares pictures with the DC Flickr group. We love getting a peek inside your homes, and sharing your inspirational spaces with the community.
UPDATED: Thanks Jen for sending this new picture with the drawer pulls attached!

Looks great with the room, although did she decide to go with no pulls at all? I don't see any. That's kind of funny.
looks soooo much better. Great job!
aww :( I loved those pulls. And i would have just put a different finish on it instead of painting. sad
Nice color, but I don't see the pulls either.
great redo. not having pulls on the lower drawers keep it clean looking. I have one question, does anyone know where I could find the rug in the before pic?
Preferred the original and find the blue pretty blah, but the room overall (... from the one picture....) looks pretty awesome, so w/e.
looks good. i'd recommend getting a wireless mouse and keyboard to deal with the wire issue.
Looks like it could be a dash and albert rug, coco. Check them out.
Check out the flickr pics. There are several were the lighting is much better and doesn't make it look so dark.
Am still curious though why there aren't pulls on the larger drawers.
I'm more curious how you OPEN the bottom drawers without pulls! :)
well done! Great transformation!
Jen here. I updated my flickr set to show everyone the new Spinneyback pulls installed. Thanks for all the support AT!!
Coco: the rug in the before picture is from Ikea.
Kahlil: good call, I did find an extra wireless mouse. That wire was bothering me too!
I too preferred the before. Didn't love the bottom pulls but the rest of it was great.
I would have refinished it, but I think grey is nice for a boy's room, and if it was dirt cheap who cares if you paint it? But I think not having pulls on those bottom drawers will lead to clawing at the fronts to get the drawers open and, hence, chipped paint.
I like the makeover and the new red pulls are uber-cool.
Oooo... did she keep the pulls? I'm seeking pulls that look like that (wish I could see them upclose!) to replace a broken one on my sideboard, and so far am coming up blank. Dang, if only this article linked to her Craigslist ad!
I would have never picked that gray/blue color but I really like it seeing it completely finished.
jen64 is correct about the rug...it's the Andrup from Ikea, and I know because my boyfriend has it in his long entrance hall and I adore it!

The red leather(?) pulls are so unexpected. Well done :)
