I was really excited about the Micke desk after seeing it in the IKEA catalogue, but honestly, after seeing it in person, it was a lot less sleek and well-built than I had hoped.

Can anyone recommend a cheap, comfortable desk chair that isn't black and doesn't have arms?

The Ikea desk has a built in cable management system. A in the back where you can place all your power cords and such, out of sight.

As for Tanker desk, in the LA area at least you can find them any day of the week on CL for under 300 dollars. 1900 is extortion.

@engill That is disappointing to hear about the Ikea desk. I was playing on buying that desk when I redo my home office. I will have to check it out in store.

As a rule, everything from IKEA should be checked out in the store to see how durable it is or what it's made of. There is a reason the desk is $79 :)

agree with Jose. I live in des moines, and there is a post on craigslist right now with a guy that has a storage building full of tanker desks.

at $20 a pop, that's a STEAL. maybe i should buy them all and sell them to suckers on the west coast for $1900 each. hahahaha!

Agree about the Ikea Micke... I went planning to buy one and it was horrible in person. Gotta love Ikea! Sometimes it's cheap and good and somethings it's cheap and oh so bad.

I saw that Ikea desk in the showroom and really dug it in the birch and white, not so much in the black.

I have that ikea desk in white! It's actually really great and I love it. Obviously there is a level of ikea furniture that's meant for college kids to use for one year but for the majority of their furniture I think it all hinges on HOW WELL YOU ASSEMBLE IT. I took a little over 2 hours to assemble the desk because I was carefully referencing the instructions and taking it slow to do it right. The result was a great looking desk with drawers that slide out perfectly and not even the slightest wobble. I'd recommend it because you get a lot of style for your buck too!
