Chicago really is all about amazing architecture , and this annual event gives you the chance to tour with professionals for free. On May 19-21, free tours take place all over the city, allowing design hounds to learn more about their passion and garner ideas for their own spaces.
Tickets are available on a first-come/first-served basis on the mornings of the tours, but a selection of the tours have tickets available online now, which can save you from the hassle and possible disappointment on the days of the event.
We are going on two tours, one of Zola Zoka's award winning House of the Year and one of Mies's IIT campus led by the professor of Architectural History at IIT. Other options that sound fun: Robie House, Modern Houses in Old Town, Alta Vista Terrace, Modern Bucktown, and the Sheffield Historic District.
There are also some drop-in, self-guided interior tours associated with the Great Chicago Spaces and Places event that do not require tickets, some of which are not normally open to the public.
