Maybe this is the year that you are going to do it. You'll need all the help you can get in order to achieve your goal. Thankfully, there are plenty of workout devices available at your disposal to help you. Not only they will track your progress, but also encourage you to go the extra mile. Let's check the best in fitness tech tools below...

FitBit Tracker
For $99, this little gem, can track how many hours of sleep you had, how many calories are your burning and even how many steps are you taking… 24/7. it's like a full time coach at your disposal. When you walk by the Tracker's base wireless base station, the base, wirelessly and automatically updates and upload your data to your FitBit.com account where you can track and analyze your progress. We love the simple clip design that you can put anywhere; so it is easy to be with you at all times.

Nike+ GPS
The app is only $2 and it will provide live GPS tracking of the path you are running, while you are running! Not only it will tell you where you are but it can also upload your route, tell you how many miles have you been running and even the time and speed. We love the "Challenge Me" feature; which pushes you to achieve a better time than the last one logged.

The Gruve
The one year subscription runs for $200 and basically, it's a lazy alarm. Tiny sensors trigger an alarm if you've been sedentary for too long. It also keeps track of your movements during the day and compares the number of calories burned to your pre determined goal and automatic upload that data to you gruve account online.

Wahoo Fitness
This is a tiny monitoring device that turns any iPhone into a personal trainer. It integrates current telemetry tech with a device you most likely are using now. Bunch of sensors are available and they all log the data in real time. The Fisica sensor weighs just 3.5 grams and runs off the iPhone battery. It plugs to the 30 pin post. You can log EKG data while enjoying all the phone's entertainment features at the same time. They also provide you with a Bike Package that tracks ground speed, cycle power and distance/location of your ride.

The FitBit looks interesting. Does anyone have any personal experience with it?
Yes. I have a fitbit and I love it. Its very easy to use and set up. You can easily attach it to your pants or middle of your bra and you don't even notice it. The user interface on the website is outstanding and it gives a lot of interesting data. I have been motivated by this little guy to move around a lot more. My only thing is I rarely use is to track sleep. There is a little arm strap for the fitbit to go in, and I don't like having something attached to me while sleeping.
Thanks for the review katkreig!
i think the gruve would be yelling at me all day long
I think it's odd to leave out the Garmin GPS watches and their like for any post or column about gadgets for exercise. It's all I see when I go to any running, biking, or outdoor forum. I guess their looks don't pass the design threshold here? ;)
Adidas also has a gadget system that I think might be better than the Nike one. And I think not so iPhone dependant.
I looked into the Nike + system but it seemed more dependant on figuring out my stride or paces, and I don't trust those systems.
I love my FitBit. I get the most from it when I combine the automatic tracking (steps, calories burned, miles walked) with the manual tracking for food intake. Awareness is a very effective motivator. In the first 30 days, I lost 13 pounds. The sleep tracker is interesting, too. I was surprised by how much I wake up at night. Suddenly, I understood why I often tired by midday.
