It's escapes month here at Apartment Therapy, and after a long conversation last night we all decided that 1. WE ARE NOT A TRAVEL BLOG (duh), but that we ARE about 1. Far away destinations that inspire our home, 2. Great design resources in our own towns that we'd share with visitors and 3. Things that help us take a little bit of home with us when we go. This super cool lunchbox falls into the last category...
This is the best lunchbox design I've found to date. Created by a Dutch couple who currently live in Santa Fe, NM, and call their company OOTS!, the box holds four small and one large container under an elastic strap that keeps your bottle in place as well. The color combos are marvelous and all the materials used are "food safe and kid-friendly: made from BPA-free and phthalate-free polypropylene and safety tested for lead."

I wonder how heavy this is. Most stuff like this is too heavy to schlep on foot or public transit.
This is hilarious - I saw some guy going up the escalator at the Braddock Road Metro stop this morning in Alexandria VA carrying one of these. I was, like, "That's a cool lunchbox. I wonder where he got it."
Interesting. I'm not sure I would agree with your judgment that this is the "best" design. I think the asian tiffin boxes are best, at least aesthetically and efficiency-wise.
I'm glad to see you've written something about food-carriers, so I can share my favorite one with you...it's a coffee picnic set- not for work, but perfect for a sweet summer getaway. And Pixie, it's definitely not too heavy, even when filled with yummy goodies!
I considered buying one of these for my kids...I love the idea of it and it looks great...but I had a REALLY hard time getting the lid to slide back into the base...it is a nice snug fit...but too difficult...certainly too hard for kids and I sadly decided if it took that much fiddling to get it closed I probably wouldn't use it...looks great..In case you wondered...I opened and closed all 3 on display in the shop in case I was messing with an anomaly...nope...sticking with tiffins.
They seem too big for one person.
