If you read Apartment Therapy because you *actually* live in an apartment (as I do), then you recognize that every square inch of space is at a premium. This fold out desk may be for a child's room, but the same concept could work for a laptop computer, a cutting board, or even a dining table.

Want to do this yourself? Ana White generously provides dimensions and step-by-step instructions for how to recreate this in your home. Please visit her site for more.

looks good!
OMG! This is amazing
This is so awesome! I was just thinking about buying my son an art desk, but dreading it because, HELLO! we have no more room! I have made a couple of Ana's designs. She is wonderful! Thanks!
Great idea! (Even if I don't live in an apartment. But we live in a tiny house - does that count?) :)
I wish I could do this for my cutting board :( it's too shallow.
Excellent idea!
I should steal this idea for my ironing board!
I was staring at this thinking, "That would be really cool for my laptop," then I thought, "Wait, how much does this project cost in time and money?" I could buy one from Ikea for $60...
As much as I like Anna White, I think this is really impractical design. It isn't child-friendly at all. Children need stability and space for their art. If you are short on space, use your dining room table or buy a card table that stores well or get something like the learning tower so you can use the kitchen counter.
Cute. I especially like that the materials are accessible but then hide away when not in use.
I love that this folds UP and has a chalkboard on the back. But I think the $30 IKEA wall-mounted drop leaf table would be a little more functional for my purposes.
i have a question i just got one can you have friends if you can have me as a friend pleses im nine years old Thanks, kaylor martin
I would suggest going with a magnet board or a picture of sorts - the chalk looks like it would rub off on your legs
