An ominous and visually arresting commentary on how our practices at home affect climate change. That's the best way we can describe "Black Balloons: Making CO2 Real," a commercial produced by the The Alliance for Climate Protection.
AT-reader Dawn tipped us off to the commercial -- we clicked over to watch it and, when it was finished, scurried around the apartment unplugging things. Visions of black balloons bounced through our minds and Tommy Lee Jones's voice followed us as we flipped off the surge protector that's wedged poorly behind the couch. We do our best to stay mindful of conserving energy, but this commercial made us realize we could always be doing better. And while we aren't huge fans of scare tactics or guilt trips, we are fans of this commercial. Because, it wasn't really guilt we felt after watching; it was actually something more like dread -- a healthy sort of dread. Watching all those black balloons (each representing 2 ounces of greenhouse gas) float out the windows and into the sky really bothered us on some deep level. It bothered us enough that we did something, and we can only hope it bothers a few more people in the near future. Click here to watch it! Image: Via www.climateprotect.org
