While the environmental pros and cons of bamboo continue to be weighed and discussed, we just wanted to point out these hand-painted bamboo blinds we spotted today at Green Your Decor. We think they're very attractive — and you could do something similar (if you feel confident enough with a paint brush) for about $80.
We're always looking for easy craft projects, and this one seems to qualify as something we might actually be able to do on our own. There are 5 relatively simple steps, and just a couple materials.
Anyone out there ever tried to paint blinds like these? Any tips?

Eighty dollars? Where did they buy those shades- Barney's?
Best tip--make sure you have something both bleed-proof and absorbent under the blinds as a drop cloth when painting. I prefer old drapes with the vinyl backing. It keeps paint from dripping through the slats onto your work surface.
Also remember, if it is important that the paint not go through to the other side, that you use a relatively dry brush when painting.
Finally, stencils are often the best bet for a neat, repeatable design and you can easily make them out of thin sheets of plastic or tagboard/manila folder material.
