Last week, we attended a brunch at a friend's house, where we got to sample homemade jams. Canning has always seemed complicated, but after tasting "Summer Strawberry Jam '08," we're tempted to give it a shot.
They used leftover fruit from a local organic farm share they participated in during the summer, and we loved that it means nothing goes to waste. By canning it, they get to enjoy farm fresh fruit all winter long, and they reuse the jars the next year.
For the party, they had the jams out and had homemade breads to sample it with. It was nice to have a little taste of local summer flavor in February. The best part was that we got to take some home with us!
