A coworker recently came back from a weekend in the desert and told me that I must check out this B&B in Joshua Tree that he and his wife discovered while on an art tour. Sacred Sands is located near the west entrance of Joshua Tree and focuses on rest and relaxation in a luxury 'green' environment. Intrigued by the glowing reports from our coworker we searched for more information at their website. The place is small, currently only two guest rooms [with plans for more].
And though built adobe style the structure has great modern, clean lines. The place is built using a strawbale construction which we learned new things about in their FAQ section. With the recent fires still lingering in our mind, was the fact that straw would seemingly be a nighmare waiting to happen. Not so according to the site, "Setting fire to a stawbale wall has been compared to lighting a match to a phone book; the density doesn't allow air flow." [a few more interesting tidbits can be found here about strawbale]
According to our coworker he said that the room photos don't do the place justice and that the on-site owners were very nice when they stopped it in to inquired on their drive through the area. Though it doesn't appear to have a pool, there are outside showers and jacuzzis which would be nice this time of year and if you so inclined...showerin' al fresco. Sounds like a great place for a hike, a good book and a long nap to us.
