Green Gifts: Tatine Soy Candles

There are a lot of soy candles out there, but when it comes to scents some are just way better than others. Tatine is a soy candle company we discovered when first moving to Chicago several years ago – and keep coming back to for gifts and special treats for own home. Until the internet Gods make smell possible through computers, you’ll just have to trust us that these are the best smelling candles ever. Really. But if that isn’t enough the packaging is lovely.

Tatine is a Chicago based candle studio that makes small batches of handcrafted soy candles – therefore each candle is unique and only available for a limited time. Owner Margo Breznik makes all the candles in her studio herself and perfumes them to recall the scents of the seasons, a trip to Europe or a walk amongst a freshly blooming garden.

Wherever possible, Tatine uses earth friendly ingredients, essential oils, cotton wicks and recycled packaging with vegetable based inks. They use no petroleum based waxes in any of their candles, soy wax only, which is cleaner burning, longer lasting, biodegradable and water-soluble.

There are several rotating collections and our favorite is Garden + Forest Infusion. Right now we’re burning Asian White Tea and tears may fall when the wax is gone.

Unfortunately the Tatine shop closed about a year ago, but you can still find their candles in some local shops such as our favorite flower shop, Asrai Garden. If you’re not in Chicago you can check out the website for a list of national retail locations or shop online. Currently the candles run from $20 to $36 online.
