Green Glue is a new water based, non-toxic, and non-carcinogenic noise proofing compound that'll improve sound isolation and significantly lessen noise without being harmful to the environment. It’s very low in volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), containing less than 5 grams per liter, has virtually no odor, and can be cleaned up with soap and water.
Here's how the application works:
- Cut the drywall to spec.
- Apply Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound with any standard quart-sized calking gun.
- Screw into existing wall or new drywall and enjoy.
Independent lab tests have apparently proved that just one layer of Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound between two layers of drywall or other similar building material dissipates up to 90 percent of noise. Green Glue (which also comes in a sealant) is sold in 12 tube cases or in a 5 gallon pail. Prices range from $175 - $265.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I wish I thought I could get my landlord to let me use this on the ceiling. My upstairs neighbor has a taste for rock and roll and his subwoofer sounds like it's in my living room.
it would be nice if this worked on low frequencies, unfortunately most of the products sold as sound dampening never mention the differences between low and high frequencies. The higher ones can be blocked by some extra insulation but it takes a lot to dampen the thump of a good sub-woofer, airport or local construction co.
