What we're learning from all your Green @ Home submissions is that being "green" is not a strict philosophy or lifestyle. It's the collection of small and large changes in the choices we make everyday and often differs from person to person. The products we use in our homes, the sort of activities we pursue, the attitude we adopt in our daily lives. In many ways being green is like trying to achieve personal fitness: we can all be at different levels of ability, but we're all aiming for the same goal of improvement.

Here's are a few things ATLA reader Alicia has done to implement green changes into her lifestyle...

Tell us about 1 green move/tip/solution that you've implemented: I've discontinued using commercial cleaning products all over the apartment. Instead, I use a solution of castile soap and water or sometimes a bit of straight vinegar to kill the big germs (like on the toilet). This is all I need to clean the apartment along with my free supply of elbow grease to help the job along!

Explain your challenge and or frustration!: as an artist, I'm always experimenting with colors everywhere, but realize that the toxins I put down the drain when I dye my hair are really unnecessary. I've cut back, but I'd like to feel better about the waste products I put back into the water supply. One idea is a colored hair extension that can clip into the hair. No mess required!

Extra Green Move: I'm trying to convince all my friends who own bicycles to use them more. I only have a bike in Los Angeles (yes, you can survive without a car) to do all my grocery shopping or whatever else I may need in daily life. If you just take the time to install a bike rack or basket, its really a great thing for your budget & health! Just remember a helmet & lights @ nite if you plan to survive your next trip :)

Thanks, Alicia for sharing!
