We have the book! Borrowed it from a very generous friend, and now we're ready to read.
However, we sensed a little hesitation last week, so we thought we'd give everyone one more week to get their hands on Animal, Vegetable, Miracle.
And, we have a couple of ideas ...
Although we did advocate for buying from a local book store, we must mention that AVM is on sale right now at Amazon.com for $17.79. There are also 90 used copies for sale from $14.99 (always a green choice).
And, don't forget, AVM is quite the bestseller -- why not send a mass email to your friends and colleagues and see if anyone has a copy to loan? That is essentially what we did.
And, now, a little of the logistics:
• The book club will officially begin on the AT: Green Home site on November 19, with a discussion post that relates to the first chapter of the book, "Called Home."
• Every Monday there will be a new discussion post (as most of us get the majority of our reading done over the weekend).
• Feel free to read at your own speed; however, at the end of each Monday discussion post there will be a suggested page to reach by the next Monday. We'll start slow, be as flexible as we need to be, and see what works as we move through the book.
• Everyone is welcome to join the discussion! Whether you're reading the book, read it a few months ago, or just have an opinion on the subject matter.
We can't wait to get started. See you on the 19th.

Commercial Flour Sa...
Hooray! I got the copy I reserved from the D.C. Public Library yesterday and I even read a few pages last evening. The writing is great so far and I look forward to discussing it here.
Just a plug for your local library too. That's very green!
The New York Public Library has a lot of copies of this (117 to be exact). You can use your library card to place a hold, or check out the book as an ebook. (There are already a lot of holds on the book, so it might be difficult to get a copy before Nov. 19, but thought I would plug for the library anyway.)
I actually bought this book a while ago but haven't had much reading time lately (and I'm still reading The Omnivore's Dilemma). I'll bump it up on my reading list and get started.
All the library copies in SD County are on hold or checked out. Snarf! I guess I'll buy one.
I did, however, check out the Dog Days book in the picture when I was at the library. Jon Katz rocks. What a weird coincidence.
I must admit - I've read ahead! Still can't wait to discuss it here!
I've got a copy on-hold at the San Francisco Library - hopefully I'll get it in time :/ Otherwise, I'm tempted to just go to the Borders a few blocks from my place and get a copy ...
Library, here I come!
Update - I bought a copy at Borders at Union Square tonight. I tried to get a copy from the library, but there are two folks ahead of me that already have holds on it. :(
The library system here in Madison, WI has gone the next step and offers limited streaming of audiobooks. Your local library might offer it also!
Unfortuantely there is still a waiting list (44 vice 104).
There are five people ahead of me at the library.....would it be green to sit in the comfy chair at the bookstore and read a chapter...or two....or the whole book...........
audible.com is offering a free book download (you can cancel the membership without buying anything). that's how i got my copy ...
Apparently I live in the wrong city (which is really a good thing, as you will see in a moment) because I'm, like, #289 on the waiting list at the Multnomah County Library. Time to visit Powells! (In other words, I live in a very eco-oriented city which means that such books are in high demand, which generally is good but highly inconvenient under these particular circumstances.)
I posted about the book club on my site @ http://victoria-e.com/ - I hope it brings in more participators. :D
I think I'd rather read the Jon Katz book ... I love doggies. :)
Oh, geez. I was afraid I would fall behind; I started reading it on Monday as my subway commute book. I'm already halfway through chapter 3! I'll be finished before we discuss chapter 2. Quick read!
J-fer Rose, you are lucky DCPL has it! In this city of workaholics, they don't have any David Allen book (for another online group) in the entire system.
