Tell us about 1 green move/tip/solution that you've implemented: I installed an outdoor shower so that I could directly and effortlessly reuse the shower gray water. This is sweet as I live in the desert and it allows me to create a small green oasis watered entirely from the daily activity of showering. Plus, getting outside in the morning is always inspiring and feels *much* better than your regular old shower. Water drains to a 'dry' riverbed of black stones I've picked up around the area and feeds several soothing bamboo plants, flowering bulbs and a very happy grape plant. The grape also provides nice shade on the ramada and the east side of the house. Its loaded with grapes at the moment. Here we come, juice!
Green challenge and or frustration!: Next challenge - design a zero-energy, gravity powered gray water system for the front, downgradient part of my house. Connect rain catchment tanks to gray water distribution for even more irrigation power. Add more edible plants like berries and fruit trees to the gray water area.
Your Green inspiration!: Gardening. For people, for birds, for wildlife.
Extra Green Move: I built this low outdoor coffee table from reclaimed wood from an old Whole Foods checkout-line display case. I painted it with low voc outdoor paint to match the existing furniture. All of the furniture in the sitting area is made from HDPE and not PVC, so it is technically recyclable and more low-impact than much of the PVC-based synthetic wicker. The pieces are durable and will last for a long time as well.
