Welcome to little green, our 10th Northwest territory reader submission to our Green @ Home giveaway. Jump below for pics and details.
Tell us about 1 green move/tip/solution that you've implemented: There is not much more we could do to green our home. We've been living the 'principle" of green living for 20 years. But we do live downtown and since returning from the Netherlands this most recent trip, my husband took a bunch of old bikes and built us a beautiful new Bakfiets. It carries kids and groceries and we find we use it almost exclusively when we travel within the city.
Explain your challenge and/or frustration!: We've been doing gray water in various forms for years and now that we live in town, it isn't really legal and we would like to work with the city to establish a way for us to do it right. This photo doesn't really do it justice, but how do you show a hidden system? Anyhow, we do save the cold water that comes out of the taps that aren't hooked up and use that water for house plants or flushing.
Explain your inspiration!: I want my kids to value what they have and become socially responsible adults. I was raised with in a radically alternative environment that stressed environmental consciousness. I hope to take all the positives that I learned and share that with my children.
Extra Green Move: We've ripped up almost all the weeds and what was left of a lawn and planted a garden. We also do most of our summer bathing outside then use that water to water the landscaping and fruit trees.
Thanks, little green!
