In Michigan City, Indiana a community called Tryon Farm has taken a green approach to development, preserving more than two thirds of the 170-acre farm as prairie, dunes, woods, and restored wetlands. Homes are designed by various architects, many of them members of CAPA (Chicago Associates Planners and Architects). Homes range from $168,000 to $488,000 including land. posted originally from: AT:Chicago

Houses are clustered together to preserve open spaces. Settlements are located in the farmstead, woods, and on the pond, with new homes being built in other clustered areas.

One-third of the residents are full-time, while two thirds own vacation homes. There's also a Bed and Breakfast for weekend visitors to the farm and a blog with photos of life on the farm.
