Green is THE Color at Home & Housewares in 2011

Home & Housewares 2011

In 2010, the color was purple - ranging from pinkish brights to deep plums, there was no mistaking the trend. In 2009, I saw a shift toward deep and dark autumnal tones - dark pumpkins, golds and reds. This year the color that I'm seeing everywhere at the show is green, green, green. And it looks good!

It wasn't a big surprise - Aaron and I saw enough green at Maison et Objet earlier this year to know it is a hot upcoming color for everything home related. That said, it seems particularly well suited for cooking and houskeeping goods — great looking when combined with white and in shiny finishes; it feels fresh, clean and just right for adding a spark of health and life to your food prep and cleaning routines.

Ten examples are shown above with many, many more tones and intensities of green on in the booths at McCormick place this week. Green seems here to stay - look for it filling the shelves of homegoods stores as these new items (or, in some cases, simply newly hued items) start rolling out this Spring, Summer and Fall.
