This weekend, while randomly checking out a pretty unbelievable open house in Oakland's Dogtown District, we saw the most beautiful countertop material. The realtor was kind enough to tell us the name: CaesarStone...
And CaesarStone, as it turns out, is pretty green. (Their green commitments are outlined extensively here.) They're GreenGuard-certified and a member of the US Green Building Council.
CaesarStone is made of 93% natural quartz — and it's super stain, scratch, and heat-resistant. We were impressed with the smooth, clean look of the counters; similar to granite, but with less grain.

Our house came with granite countertops in the kitchen and bathroom. If they'd been radioactive, we'd have replaced them with CaesarStone. Since they aren't, however, we're keeping them--no reason to replace a perfectly good countertop.
